Today I learned

Trains shoot sand on their wheels for better traction in some conditions.

I take it that you never played the railroad tycoon games. Having sand for your trains on certain parts of the map was necessary.

TIL

This was a new word for me.

I am actually not, I’m from Peoria, but my husband is from Steubenville, which is similar to Pittsburgh if you’re from Steubenville, and nothing close if you’re from Pittsburgh.

Thank God. We’ve been waiting all these years. Time to finally fix it.

I read 2/3rds of Betty Friedans’s Feminine Mystique when I was in my 20s. I didn’t find out she was from Peoria until the tv show “Mrs America”.

Wisconsin has a lot of Springfields.

Wtf Wisconsin.

Any Sprungfields?
Shelbyvilles?

Reminds me of lake names in MN… There are more than 200 Mud Lakes. There are also 113 Long Lakes, 83 Rice Lakes and 69 Bass Lakes.

If you’re planning a fishing trip & planning on meeting at the lake, you’d better be specific.

No, but I bet they got an Brockway, Ogdenville, and North Haverbrook covered.

Isnt it unique within the county. There are lots of counties

The mechanism shoots the sand on the track, not the wheels.

When GT beat Cal in football in 1929 they were gifted a bear. He lived under the football stands and was taken all around campus
