Happy Thoughts

We flew out of SeaTac, which has a SpotSaver program to make an appointment for TSA, so it was quick. The general line looked short, too.

It is my fault that my daughter moved to London 20+ years ago. She was under 10 years old when we lived in the UK (1990-92) and she developed an affinity for England while there. After she graduated from McGill she applied to graduate programs at Cambridge (her first choice) and LSE but only got into the latter.

As a foreigner, she could not have gone to LSE without financial assistance from her parents. However I never say no to my daughters on their dreams so we ponied up the tuition and provided ongoing support. I thought the programs at U of T and Columbia were as good but she wanted to live in London.

She is a big city girl and the local arts culture is huge for her. NYC was a subsequent option for her until Trump became POTUS in 2017. There is no possibility of her living in the US until he and his successors are no longer in the WH. Vancouver is also not a long term option as it is too small town. Only TO or Montreal would be Canadian candidates.

What I need is a thread for mixed thoughts. Happy that American now has free wifi on board if a member of their frequent flier program. But mixed since it seems like poor Wi-Fi,

happy because flying cheap. But mixed since main cabin economy, and I’m in a center seat in the very last row. And wife and daughter are in the bulkhead row at the front of the main cabin, aisle and center. American assigns seats for main cabin economy. They actually gave me one of the bulkhead seats, but I let the two of them sit together.

Happy to be on flight despite very misleading TSA pre check info. Fortunately we arrived 2 1/2 hours before scheduled boarding even though precheck lines were only 2 mins per website. And displaying 1-3 mins when we got in line. But the line was over 30 minutes until we got to that sign, even though we got see it from where we got into line.

Boston seems to be a great town for food for those with celiac disease. I did some research ahead of time, and we’ve had great food so far (steak frites, pizza, cannoli, doughnuts, pasta. The restaurant we’re going to tomorrow night is entirely GF on Mondays.

I’ve also been amused that my middle-aged, overweight-and-out-of-shape self has more stamina than my sons. We’ve walked around 9-10 miles each of the last 2 days, but I care more about comfort than style with footwear.

First hummingbird of the year sighted yesterday.

I saw a mourning dove yesterday which is a good sign spring is coming.

well now I am happy

One of my monitors stopped working - The one plugged into my desk dock.

It seemed to be powering properly.

So, I tried a few other cords I had in the house, using different ports.

I bought a new cord, not being sure why the other cords were unused

I powered down my whole system over night

I plugged the “bad” into the laptop and it worked

I plugged the “Good” monitor into the desk dock and it didn’t work

I tried it in various ports - nothing

I e-mail IT

Me: I need a new desk dock

Them: Unplug it and wait 10 seconds

Both happy and annoyed, my work computer has died suddenly. So, on one hand I’m not productive. On the other hand, nobody expects me to be, I’m just delegating everything for a couple days.

Broetry: Why is everyone suddenly writing in single line sentences on LinkedIn?

No idea, I’m rarely on LinkedIn, but I do see those kind of posts on r/linkedinlunatics.

I’m excited about the twist my career has taken this late in life. I was working at 6am, everyone’s gone tonite so its’ 7”30 pm and I’m still working. I don’t need as many breaks when I’m invigorated like this.

Feeling antsy so took the dog out for a late walk. She took her dump across the street from the garbage can at the park so I didn’t have to carry around a bag of poop.
