I adore halvah! I haven’t had it in ages, though. My dad used to buy it at the deli, they would slice off a chunk. It’s basically sesame fudge, I guess.
I like the chocolate covered jelly, too. And chocolate covered cherries. Trader Joe’s does a nice dried-cherry-dipped-in-dark-chocolate if you don’t want any liquid. I could eat myself sick on those. I also buy a really nice chocolate covered cherry at Whole Foods. It’s about a dollar per cherry, and the cherries are pickled in booze. So yes, there’s liquid inside, but it’s not horrible overly sweet syrup, it’s sort of cherry-infused brandy – all covered with chocolate. Those are great. And one is enough.
But those are not popular and they are delicious, so I suppose they don’t really belong in this thread.
Popping a gum drop in your mouth and then realizing it is one of those spice/mint/whatever things is one of the worst holiday experiences.
I love spice drops (aside from the licorice ones)
I’ll eat them and be okay with it as long as I know what I’m getting into. Expecting something fruity and sweet and getting spice instead is very unpleasant.
Could be worse - you could bite into Harry Potter jelly beans without knowing it. Was thinking that would be a nice April Fool’s Day office prank, but not worth the risk that someone would choke on the vomit-flavoured one. Even though you can’t dust for vomit they would still find a way to trace it back to me.
I’ll accept that. I only buy the spice drops, because the bland fruity ones aren’t worth the calories to me. But i imagine it could be an unpleasant shock.
As a kid I hated spice drops, accept the licorice and cinnamon ones, always liked those. As an adult I actually don’t mine any of the spice drops
I just googled “spice drops”. I could handle cinnamon and anise, but clove???
Spice drops should only be used for gingerbread houses.
I have a hard time choosing between Good and Plenty, spice drops (all the flavors) and circus peanuts. They’re all so good. If I’m buying, I usually buy all 3.
A popular candy I detest is Reese’s peanut butter cups. Those things are just downright nasty.
True story
Ok
They put enough sugar in them to make the clove taste amazing.
That’s the first time I heard anyone say that about Reeses. I don’t like them as much as I used to but still think they’re ok.
I think he’s trolling us.
Perhaps, though they say that truth is Ranger than fiction
They are great - except that the chocolate on them melts much more easily than on other candy bars. Since I moved to a warmer climate they have become a bit less appealing simply because they are more difficult to eat.
I guess it’s one of those sweet/savoury contrast things.
Not trolling. I already said “true story”. If you still don’t believe me, you can ask my kids. They don’t understand my taste in candy. Which is fine with me, they don’t mooch my stash.
They’re “normal people”. They dislike black licorice, circus peanuts, fruit cake. They like Reese’s. I think there must have been a mix-up at the hospital nursery.
I know fruit cake isn’t a “candy” - but I like it when it shows up at Christmas time. Good stuff.
pro tip: freeze them. They are much better that way.
