I was thrown by my thought that Africa has the same width as Europe. I thought eastern Europe equals eastern Africa. My second guess was Jordan - not far enough south. My third guess wasn’t too bad - Tunisia - but then I headed for Sudan, then west to Chad, then overshot it with Mali.
Today’s puzzle is obvious so I went back a day… to the archives!

For me any place in Northwestern Africa is a guess, and just got lucky.

I got today’s, $\textcolor{red}{\text{with only minor pause about that very large northern offshore island,}}$
$\textcolor{red}{\text{and the appearance that the largest southern offshore island}}$ $\textcolor{red}{\text{is pretty much due south of the center of the large northern island.}}$
Difference between 2 dimensions and 3? Google confirms that the westernmost point in that northern group is west of the westernmost point in the southern group. One wrong guess before getting all 4 neighboring countries.

Wasn’t confident guess 3 would be right, or that I would get it at all (before guess 2, smart money would have been on not at all).

This is one of the 5 or 6 I know instantly (I’m from Australia, and probably 99% of Australians would recognize it).
You’re from the other side of the world but still got #389 in 1. :noteworthy:
Ha. That’s another one of the 5 or 6.

A success is a success, even if it should have been in 4 (if not earlier). (With guess 3 Portugal only off 248 miles, not thinking well at all to with guess 4 off 1000ish and guess 5 off 500ish. Even guess 3 confirms I have paid little attention to country shapes.
if 6 years of spanish language classes, a mother who taught spanish, and 4 kids with 15 combined years of hs spanish to date haven’t prepared me for this question, 6 guesses may not have been enough.

Didn’t recognize it at first without Portugal attached to it but when I realized it was in Europe and had that big bite taken out of it on the west …
