Women's Soccer

Was watching some past WWC highlights. Man, do the keepers jump off the line prior to the kick on Kicks from the Spot. That is a major no-no nowadays. And that was back when both feet had to be on the line when the ball was kicked.

Couple of lovely passes for the New Zealand goal
1:03 (the goal scorer went to college in Tennessee)

Canada won’t get out of the Group stage if they continue to play the way they did against Nigeria. No ability to finish off potential scoring plays. Very frustrating game.

Watching a little PHI v SUI last night. Score bug is inadequate. Should be able to tell which team is in which color kit by looking at the score bug, without having to check faces and such. Better for the casual fan.

Assuming the nightmare of tying NED, USWNT need to get greedy vs Vietnam tonight.

I think the days of 10-0 scores at the Women’s World Cup are over as the quality of all teams has greatly improved. HOWEVER, if any match had the potential for a blowout it would be US vs Vietnam.

The Pentagon Papers might have something to say about that. But, let’s keep that top secret for now.

Is offsides when more than one person is offside?

Gonna predict that so many media people use that term, IFAB will eventually change the wording.

Easy game. Just finished watching.
Sophia Smith still at 100% the 95th minute.
Rapinoe can barely get a pass completed. Might not even play vs NED. It’s a must-win, cant have sloppy play.

Any chance someone other than Sullivan can take a corner so they get a playable ball? Rapinoe was no better and DeMelo barely so.

The England, US and Canada matches were all ugly to watch but at least the English and the Americans got their expected three points. It will be nice to see some matches soon between top 10 teams.

Ok, i see a tiny dot next to the team names. Just put the team names in the font color of the jersey
number, on a background of the jersey color.
Every top quality broadcaster does it. Maybe girls dont deserve it.

I’d forgotten that Canada has an openly non-binary player on their team. Kinda refreshing that this is, at least so far, being treated as totally normal and not made a big deal out of.

Likewise, the recent winner of the women’s 1500m at the US track and field championships is non-binary, and other than using their correct pronouns, the announcers didn’t comment on it.

Why are some first matches within a group played on different says?
I dont think the Men’s WC schedules that way.
Girls don’t deserve it, i guess, according to FIFA.

Pretty sure they always do it for Group A, where the host plays immediately after the opening ceremony -

20 November 2022

Qatar 0–2 Ecuador

21 November 2022

Senegal 0–2 Netherlands

Yea, one group.
Not 4(?) Of eight.
I can see two, cuz stupidly two hosts.

I’m pretty sure other tournaments have some stagger for the first two rounds, with just the third round being fixed to play at the same time.

Looks like 2022 was less of a norm due to a condensed calendar necessitating 4-game days, but 2018 Men’s and 2019 Women’s had a lot of 3-game days in the first two rounds.

Is this just a tone deaf reporter or someone who has an agenda? What repercussions do you think would be appropriate for the reporter?

USA vs Netherlands starts in just over an hour (9pm Eastern).

Should be a good test for the US. Certainly should be better viewing than the Vietnam match.
