Eh, it’s the Irish. Name a word that is not a fighting word.
Interesting article on ACL injuries and women’s soccer:
Smioth and Giurna to honor teammate from Stanford who took her life.
Most important advice is at the end:
Smith also detailed steps she has taken to manage her mental health during a tournament in which attention will be focused on the U.S. as it attempts to win its third consecutive World Cup.
“I think a big thing is leaning on your teammates and knowing that we’re all in this together, whatever those emotions may be,” Smith said.
“Everyone’s probably felt it at some time. For me, deleting Twitter, the best thing I’ve ever done. No idea what’s happening. But I think just kind of balancing; we did all these shoots and partnerships and stuff months ago, and it’s all coming out now, and it’s a lot and it’s like something new every day. So trying to just push that aside and focus on what we are here to do, and that’s to play soccer in one World Cup, and just finding that balance I think is super important.”
I follow Sophia Smith on Twitter. She was tweeting about Girma’s Players Tribune article yesterday.
WHAT?? She lied about being on Twitter??
She is no longer my hero.
Maybe she has a PR type person running the account for her.
A similar article on Fox Sports says deleting Twitter from her phone. “Best thing I’ve ever done,” she said. Maybe she just got rid of the phone app.
More likely that she is forced to have an account on Twitter because of the endorsements she has. But she no longer opens the account.
That is not “deleting,” imo, though the kids have, like, a different word for everything.
Someone is still actively posting on that account weekly or so.
I wonder if there are professional posters – meaning, people who post for others – who won’t post anything unless vetted by some other professionals.
i have a twitter account. i don’t have the app on my phone. it can happen.
Do you have a professional poster?
Perhaps the whole quote wasn’t used, “I deleted the twitter app from my phone, so I couldn’t access it as easily.”
i am my own amateur poster. from the laptop i access it from. or even via web on the phone. but I’ve tweeted fewer than 50 times over the years. 90% of that was replies to others. 5% retweets. 5% original venting. I have 11 followers!
You are also not a famous, athletic, pretty, young woman who could get in major trouble/danger for twitting the wrong thing. Nor do you have to read shit about yourself that can cause yourself mental and/or psychological damage.
The easiest solution is often the optimal one, but I think she is forced to have a twitter account. The rest of us have an easier decision.
you really don’t know me irl, do you?
More about social media and their evils:
Sophia still says she “deleted” it. Kids these days.
Wondering which part I’m guessing wrong…
NZ’s surprise win over Norway last night hopefully might increase ticket sales in NZ.
Does that include the 20,000 free tickets?
Probably does, Also, having 50% more matches doesn’t hurt, either.
Meanwhile, all that VAR explanation that fans want to hear? Well, ref talked, said “penalty” crowd roared while the ref talked on and nobody heard the explanation. So, great job, FIFA, on Americanizing Soccer.
Mid-season All-Star games are next up. Ooh, looks like MLS had theirs the other day and Wayne Rooney hated being the coach.
More women getting unequal treatment: England W Goalkeeper kit not available for sale, but, of course, the England M kit is.
ESPN says sources say it is a “commercial decision.” But, The England FA, I think, signed the contract with Nike. Why is Nike allowed to make this “commercial decision”? Because the FA DNGAF? Seems like it to me.
Not talking average Keeper here, either. Winner of Euro W, 2022 FIFA Best Award for Keepers.
She ought to wear a protest kit that is IFAB-compliant. Or maybe not wear it until she is in goal at the start, take it off at halftime, put it back on, during play, then take it off immediately afterward.
Or, order a shit-ton of actual kits in various sizes, citing a “need” for them. Then, give them away to fans. I think the FA might have something to say about it then.
