Will you get the vaccine as soon as available to you?

Yeah im not entirely sure what smoothie is talking about there

Yeah im seeing walgreens too. There is walgreens all over the place in manhattan

maybe he meant “career”

Moderna or pfizer?

I assume this isn’t directed at me, but this is my fourth Pfizer.

It’s directed at anyone. Im trying to decide. I got j&j and moderna thus far

Walgreens did not give me the choice. I put in the form that I had Pfizer for my first three.

Ah i might not have a choice then. Haven’t tried to book it yet

I just (via MyChart message) asked my doctor which I should get if 3 Pfizer so far. Perhaps he’ll respond that I won’t get a choice.

Hmm, I’ve had two Pfizers and a Moderna booster. Wonder what they’ll suggest for me.

Is the thinking still that Moderna is better?

I’ll have to check with my stepmom to see if she’s been unblinded from the study she was in. She had a 67% chance of getting an Omicron booster, a 67% chance of getting a flu vaccine and an 89% chance of getting something, IIRC. A week after she was jabbed my Dad got Covid and she never did, so we’re assuming that she’s in the 67% that got an Omicron booster. I’d be interested to see if she knows yet what they gave her.

Also wondering if moderna is still considered better.

So many potential different standards. The cool kids have been Pfizer-only so far.

I mean, my husband and I are triple-Pfizer and neither of us has ever gotten Covid, so clearly Pfizer is best.

I didn’t realize your husband was also one of the kool kids.

Cool kids are j&j and then one and only one moderna. Tbd as to what the cool kids get now.

Clearly we have different definitions of cool kids. NTTAWWT. However, if one’s definition is “one and only one moderna”, they shouldn’t have a question about what now.

Your local epidemiologist has a good article on which booster to get when

Basically:

  • If your last exposure (vaccine or infection) was less than 3 months ago, wait.
  • If your last exposure was 3-6 months ago, you might want to time it if you know you have a risky event coming up. Unless you are immune compromised, in which case sooner is good.
  • If your last exposure was more than 6 months ago, get it now.
  • If you are a young male, consider getting Pfizer, as the dose is lower and there might be a lower risk of myocarditis.
  • There might be some small benefit from mixing and matching.
  • Don’t wait for the Novavax booster to be approved, preliminary studies say it’s not quite as good.

Oh i wasnt clear. Not one and only one moderna. One moderna of the original vaccine/booster. Tbd on the new and improved omicron specific booster as to what’s cool.

I wonder how to tweak the recommendations for my lifestyle. Retired, single-family home in suburbs. Try to be very careful. Did risk a small college reunion in May (when two classmates and two spouses became symptomatic two days later), a wedding in July, a funeral in August, and an outdoor picnic with maybe 2 dozen college classmates today. Very little other contact risk (0 restaurant dining). Regrettably have limited myself to zoom-only participation in exam committee meetings, some of which had in person as well (one of those for 2 days this September). I’ll have a choice again for a 4-day meeting in first half of December, and would really like to go.

Last exposure (vaccination booster) in October 2021.

So for now I’m thinking holding off until late September, for better December protection, but if we decide to make any earlier travel plans, will get the booster earlier.

If I find out the kool kids are getting it ASAP,…

Well, I got my last booster a little less than 4 months ago, and I may have some risky things I want to do late fall, so I’m probably going to wait a bit longer. And my husband got his slightly less than 2 months ago, so he’s definitely waiting.
