Will you get the vaccine as soon as available to you?

yeah, but i kinda don’t want tinnitus.

Understandable, but I think it happens to most people eventually, particularly if you live in city environments with constant noise.

My 6 year old recently got her first shot, as did my similarly aged nephew. I don’t think either had any symptoms, which is good for them because I was miserable.

Put off getting the booster because I was sick, will probably bite the bullet on that soon…

Wikipedia says

Tinnitus affects 10–15% of people.[5] About a third of North Americans over 55 experience tinnitus.[113] Tinnitus affects one third of adults at some time in their lives, whereas ten to fifteen percent are disturbed enough to seek medical evaluation.[114]

I feel like I’ve had mild tinnitus for an hour or two from time to time, but never for an extended period.

Wow, to me an hour or two is extended.

I have only had it as a passing wave

Interesting. It felt like it’s more common that than to me among people I know.

I’ve had tinnitus ever since I can remember. It wasn’t until I was in my 20’s that I realized that wasn’t normal.

I mostly don’t notice it, but I do prefer having some noise (even if just a little bit of white noise) going at all times to help mask it.

So is tinnitus the same thing as when you leave a loud concert you have ringing in your ears or is that a different thing? I don’t know if I’m getting old or what but I don’t like loudness at all. When my kids get riled up I have to ask them to go outside because it’s just too much.

after a loud concert, my hearing is dull and distorted, similar to landing in a plane

for me tinnitus is high pitched and disorienting.

It’s just white noise. My partner turns on a fan at night to help her sleep. My body gives me something naturally that she has to get by plugging something into the wall.

I’ve never had high pitched, nor disorienting. I’ve sometimes heard a quiet buzz, usually just in one ear, for a while. Then it goes away. I have rarely noticed it for more than a few minutes, as it’s basically “white noise” that originates in my ear (or my brain?) I find it mildly annoying, and I’d be upset if it were common. But it’s been a rare occurrence for me.

Come to think of it, I do have a very high-pitched ring. Not disorienting, but I try not to think about it.

White noise I cannot control would make me crazier than I already am.

I’ve had it for years, but doesn’t bother me much except when it flairs up very noticeably. That happens after COVID shots (for well over a week) and after flying (usually for a day or two). It’s a high pitched sound that sounds like the buzzing from electronics. During flair ups it bothers me, specifically at night :-/

I made my booster appt for Dec 27.

Significant tinnitus sounds like a form of torture…

I thought we were already ditching J&J because it’s less effective at preventing COVID than the other two.

I had fewer side effects from J&J than I did from the moderna booster.
