Will you get the vaccine as soon as available to you?

i didn’t know until now, but my father got a booster in the nursing home on december 2. he got pfizer because all they have there is pfizer. he had NO reaction at all. i don’t want to sound ungrateful to no reaction at all after he had a pretty bad reaction to both doses of moderna, but isn’t a reaction a sign that your immune system is working? although, had he gotten the moderna booster, i bet he would have had a reaction since he had a pretty bad one to it. it also might have to do with his immunity waning from having had covid almost 2 years ago, which concerns me.

so, he had covid, 2 moderna, 1 pfizer booster. hopefully that’s enough to keep omicron away from him. currently there is no covid at all in his nursing home.

but regardless, i feel a little bit calmer at the prospect of my father being in a nursing home knowing that it’s been almost 2 weeks since his booster, so it’s likely kicked in. so hopefully he avoids covid.

I’m triple-Moderna, and for my third shot I had a slightly sore arm & that was it. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have known I got the booster at all.

My wife is triple-Pfizer, and she had a pretty bad reaction to her booster shot.

Here’s an article from npr that you might find reassuring: What does it mean if you don't have any vaccine or booster side effects? : Goats and Soda : NPR
tl;dr: “You’re in luck: …experts are quick to reassure that the vaccine works regardless of how you feel afterward.”

Too little, too late.

If only he had been able to start the treatment earlier…

Maybe this doesn’t belong in a “will you get the vaccine…?” thread, since future tense no longer apples. Per the article, his wife did not say whether he had been vaccinated.

i forget, did you have a worse reaction to the first 2 doses?

good to hear about it working regardless of how you feel.

Weaselette had a bit of lymph node soreness after her booster. Lasted a few days but pretty mild.

I had the typical reactions to the first two doses. In particular, the 2nd dose of Moderna, I stayed in my lazyboy & worked from home from there. I felt crappy but not horribly crappy.

Same here. No reaction at all. Having no reaction is good news, not bad.

12 year old (so full dose) had no reaction to either shot. Said his arm was sore for a day, but went to sports practices as normal day of and day after.

9 year old had no reaction to 1st shot besides sore arm for a dayish. Went to school the next day and gymnastics/dance practice as normal.

From all parents I have talked to, I have not heard of any kid having a bad reaction leading to missed school or anything like that.

Greenwoman and I boosted last week - 3rd Moderna for each.

She had no reaction at all beside arm sore for a day.

My arm was sore for a day, I had a dull headache the day after (not severe), and I felt some swelling thing in my armpit for a couple days (now gone) that I have learned was probably lymph node swelling from reading this thread.

seems like a fairly common side effect.

I had the opposite, terrible reaction to shot #2 and a pretty bad reaction to the booster. I keep telling myself that’s good news not bad! (I don’t really know)

This booster made me really really not want to get another booster.

The alternative is COVID. Maybe it won’t be so bad every other year you get it.

In other news, the sun just came out after 14 hours of rain.

not everyone gets covid without the vaccine, and the vaccine is no guarantee you won’t get covid.

I mean, I didn’t say I wouldn’t get it. Just that I didn’t want to get it. Maybe I’ll end up putting it off longer or something, I don’t really know at this point. Maybe in 8 months I’ll forget how bad it was.

Cool enough. I don’t like shots/needles of ANY kind, and I don’t want to need them.
But, I’ll get over it. As of now, no pain in my arm. No lymph stuff, either.

One thing I’ve noticed is that I get major tinnitus after the shot, for at least a week or two til I realize it’s gone one day.

I know a person who got tinnitus longer term than a week or two, and therefore decided against the 2nd dose of the vaccine. i might not get the 2nd dose if it resulted in long-term tinnitus. that’s one of my many fears in life.

I’ve had tinnitus for like 7 years. After the first few years, you barely notice it other than when some mentions it or it’s REALLY quiet.
