Wi Spa controversy

I think you misunderstood me. Those people are transphobes, and they should be called out for being so. We shouldn’t tolerate people the dehumanization of people just because someone finds them objectionable.

I thought the argument for not allowing trans-women to compete with women wasn’t because women with penises are scary, but because they are stronger and would have a competitive advantage. you can hold that view and not be a transphobe.

You are familiar with what happened to J.K. Rowling? No, I am not a fan of her, for me she is just another author who made lots of money by writing bunch of books.

Not really, the science doesn’t support that (given the T suppression we discussed elsewhere and I’m not rehashing), and that’s the exactly the language racists used 70 years ago to keep blacks out of major league sports.

calling someone names such as “transphobe” for holding an opinion on sports doesn’t really win you any friends.

most people haven’t really researched the science behind all of this as much as a trans person has.

Yes. Trans kids that receive puberty blockers (because lets be clear, no one actually gets cross sex hormones until they are in their late teens, younger kids just get puberty blockers which are used for cis children ALL THE TIME to prevent an early puberty and are 100% safe and reversible) are far, far less likely to attempt suicide. Over 40% of transgender children that are denied puberty blockers will attempt suicide (including me!) at least once. I prefer alive and happy kids.

“Detransition” and “regretting it” are mostly just transphobic talking points. Detransition remains incredibly rare, and in the majority of cases, it’s due to the societal discrimination that forces a detransition, not their gender identity. Kids that try out a different gender expression will very quickly know if it’s not for them, well before anything permanent is done. Living as the wrong gender is incredibly mentally exhausting – no one does it as a joke, or just because it’s a phase.

Laurel Hubbard has been suppressing testosterone for nearly a decade. If she wins, it’s because she trained harder than everyone else, not because she was born as a woman with a penis. Trans women have been allowed in the Olympics for almost 20 years, and she is the first one to actually make it — just that fact alone shows what a lie the ‘competitive advantage’ argument is.

Having the opinion when you don’t know the science isn’t transphobic. Continuing on holding that opinion when you are shown the facts and evidence does.

welcome to the community @TheChad. I suspect your time here will be short. :grimacing:

Let’s be clear: one side is allowed to scream and demand absolutes all they want. The other is not.

Just suggesting that trans women shouldn’t be allowed to compete in female sports, or that we should split sports by testosterone or really any basis other than gender identity will get you labeled a bigot and called names very quickly… with impunity for the name-caller(s).

okay, if a trans woman with a penis really walked around naked in a women’s locker room, i could see that making people uncomfortable, and like, maybe she should change in a bathroom stall or something? why is that too much to ask?

i never change in the open to begin with. i’m not comfortable doing that, and surprised that a trans woman is comfortable doing that knowing it will likely make others uncomfortable. locker rooms always have bathrooms with stalls and some even have changing rooms. so, what’s wrong with using it to change?

It wasn’t a locker room. It was a naked spa. The ‘wet area’ is clothes forbidden. If the story if even true, which there is no evidence of I remind you, she was there getting treatment/services like everyone else and you aren’t allowed to wear a bathing suit in that area of the spa.

I’m sorry our existence is icky to you, but you don’t get to say who is welcome in businesses. It’s illegal to discriminate on the basis of gender identity.

so, you think there is no other explanation for a woman being uncomfortable around a naked penis than she’s transphobic?

On a man, lots of them. On another woman, shrug. It probably doesn’t work, she’s probably more embarrassed by it than anyone else, and the fact that she’s one of the 1% of women that was born with a penis isn’t her fault.

if she’s more embarrassed by it than anyone else, why is she going to a naked spa? people who are embarrassed by their naked bodies tend to not walk around naked.

Again, I remind you there is no evidence there was a trans woman even there. This is very likely made up. However, she could have been there for any number of reasons. Maybe a friend took her for spa day — not sure what day it happened, but LOTS of gay and trans people come out during the last week of Pride, so maybe it was her anniversary of being public. Maybe she’s trying to work through some fears. It took me 8 months to work up the ability to go out anywhere on Wednesdays or Thursdays because I can’t shave from Tuesday morning until Friday after my electrolysis. Maybe she’s not embarrassed by it, not every trans woman has genital dysphoria, though many do. But again, she doesn’t need a reason. She has every right to be there.
