Why doesn't the United States just break up?

People want to separate into a Democrat country and a Republican country. Basically city folk don’t want to live with their country brethren. It’s elitism. It’s part of the problem not part of the solution. This is why people like Trump are appealing to rural America. They think the rest of the countrybis against them and they need a bully. It’s more important to show them that you care than to show them they are not no longer worthy of even being a part of your country at all.

Fixed, for accuracy.

Quick note: we already don’t live with each other. For good reasons. But not wanting to live someplace and wanting separate countries are very different concepts.

it’s not “elitism”. i got a job in manhattan, so that’s where i live. i’m fine living with country folk. sounds like bullshit to me.

i care about my fellow new yorkers dying from COVID. people in the “country” don’t give a shit though and consider it a “blue state problem”. how the hell am i being elitist here?

yup. i think it’s the exact opposite. those “country folk” are also huge racists.

In fairness I’d be happy to negotiate with northeastern Republicans and Democrats since we’re not that far apart. I’d take a pass on the Bible belt though.

Honestly the country is just quite culturally different by region.

yup, and the bible belt is all “JESUS HAS SENT HIS SON DONALD TRUMP TO SAVE US ALL!!! (as long as you’re white)”

bunch of hypocritical racists.

um. The reverse is true as well. Most of the country bumpkins don’t want to live in cities. Read their comments, they despise city people, every aspect of their being.

Ninja’d!

This is total BS. You seem to be reverting back to your previous AO mindset after making much progress. You can choose to be better than this.

I know people who died of both.

FWIW - I don’t much care for cities either. Suburbs are okay, but if I could figure out the employment logistics, the more rural the better.

I’d have to deal with hating the political beliefs of my neighbors (but I have to do a fair bit of that in the suburbs too) - but I like the lifestyle.

the J in Donald J Trump is for “Jesus”.

Where do we live if we are more purple than red or blue? I actually voted for every party that showed up on my ballot.

Canada/Mexico

also, the south shore of staten island is not rural america, but they are something like 90% or more Trump supporters. you know why? because they are white racists.

and yeah, i don’t want to “live with them” because they are assholes. maybe if they stop being assholes, i’d be cool with living with them. nothing to do with elitism.

I need my uber to not be over $40 whenever I decide to go out. Of course, suburban people mostly drive drunk when they go out. That is a no-no for me.

I don’t drink, so not an issue.

I’m sure you will enjoy living in a country that imports 100% of it’s food, natural resources, and commodities from the other country. Also where all the high income earners leave for the other country because of excessive taxation and take their big companies with them.

Eastern Pennsylvania

I mean, if benefits stay the same arguably our taxes would actually go down… because of the whole net transfer out of high GDP states thing…
