Well, fair warning, there’s quite a bit more to not look forward to.
The first time I tried, my wife and I gave up a few episodes in because it was slow and didn’t catch us. The second time we tried we binged the whole series and both really liked it. Not best show of all time levels, but very good.
What genre does it fit into in your opinion? I think that it is kinda unique and hard to define it’s story. It’s kinda Species meets The Walking Dead meets Stepford Wives meets Soylent Green
It’s not exactly sci-fi. It’s not exactly dystopian future. It’s not exactly social commentary. It’s not exactly a zombie show. But it is a little bit of all of these.
Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea. I own them on dvd but they’re now available for purchase on prime. Very nostalgic viewing for me.
I would classify it as sci-fi alien invasion.
It’s interesting, because I think how it is classified in my mind might depend a lot on how season 2 goes. It’s still not clear to me where it will go - more classical invasion, more classical us vs the state, etc.
I don’t think it’s necessarily invasion. I think it’s akin to the spread of religion - the radio signal is the missionary. “We like this way of organizing society. We think that you should like it too”. Whether there’s an ulterior motive is not clear yet.
I agree it could fall into several genres with some overlap of each but alien race sends “virus” to control subjects of Earth sure sounds sci-fi to me.
Isn’t it more of a character study?
Isn’t the hive mind more of a metaphor, or an allegory even?
More importantly, WHY is the sand
purple
? And WHY didn’t Carol know that a two masted schooner doesn’t have a mizzenmast? If there are two masts, there cannot be one in the middle. WTF? {what’s the finding?}
Not binging but A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms first episode dropped Sunday - will watch this one as released.
Minx - 2 season Netflix (originally Stars) - idealistic feminist teams up with porn mag producer to produce first erotic magazine for women. The sound track takes me back and I’m enjoying this show more than I have a right to. First season was fun. It’s got decent writing and acting with enough humor and social commentary to stay interesting. Only lasted 2 seasons so maybe the 2nd season fell apart, we’ll see.
Started Animal Control.
Reasonably entertaining formulaic sitcom. good news is I can use it as a gateway to watch Brooklyn99 w my spouse
Started “Nurse Jackie” with wife. Funny and sad. A bit aggravating, too, since as a nurse she is obviously well-aware of her addiction and she chooses not to care.
At night, I should be watching "The Wire.’ I’m in a few episodes. But also watching “Phineas and Ferb” on Disney+. Am I a little too old to be watching a well-written cartoon with extremely absurd plots? Yes, yes I am. Just about finished with Season 2.
If you haven’t watched “Milo Murphy’s Law” you probably should. Same guys with bonus Weird Al. Even more absurdity, still fun imo.
The Wire is pretty epic. Like some others, I started it years ago and stopped after six or so episodes. Watched it a couple of years ago and got hooked.
I’ve been watching a lot of Antiques Roadshow, good times.
Watched two more last night.
Am about halfway through the third season of the wire.
Finished season 3 of The Diplomat. Love this show, the acting, the sets and the plot. And season 3 has Bradley Whitford!
I was chuffed when I found out he was going to play Alison Janney’s husband (a West Wing reunion). He was also great in Handmaid’s Tale (as was a surprisingly well cast Josh Charles in the final season).
I’ve been alternating this with the latest season of Black Mirror. Both shows have Rory Kinnear playing the British PM.
11.22.63
I remember watching that when it first came out. Both the Book and Series adaptation were good. We may have to put it on the rewatch list.
Shrinking season three premiere dropped 13 minutes ago.
