Started rewatching 30 Rock as a nighttime detox. One of my favorite shows. Opened it up last night and … it’s not on Hulu anymore. Apparently NBC pulled it off and onto Paramount. ![]()
into a third watch of Schitt’s Creek (Hulu). Enjoyable and comfortable for a third watch.
I have now caught up.
What’s in the Box. Whhhaaaats in the baaaaaaaaax?
Or, what made Carol jump when she saw what the Other’s milk carton cocktail is made of?
Spoiler
Is it … people?
Will we find out what it is?
Started up “Banacek” on Prime.
For the unaware:
“Banacek” was a series in NBC’s “Wednesday Mystery Movie.” Instead of having to churn out weekly episodes, three series rotated on the schedule. “Columbo” was part of the similar “Sunday Mystery Movie.”
Banacek is a Polish-American (this is VERY IMPORTANT character trait for the series, for some reason) Insurance investigator, who makes bank solving huge insurance claims (fraud, mostly) before they have to be paid off. Lives large, womanizer, smokes long thin ceee-gars. All that manly stuff.
A reboot would probably have him as a Latina Lesbian, but who knows? Solving insurance fraud is less exciting than solving murders, I guess.
“Banacek” has had legal issues due to a divorce and the dead. Only two seasons because of it, as Peppard didn’t want his ex-wife to have any of his earnings from it. This also led to its being not streamed, I think. A&E networks apparently shows them, though I know not when. And I want original speed, no editing, no commercials.
Fun seeing old L.A., though set in Boston. Funny how it never snows or rains on this show.
all good questions i imagine. i haven’t started it yet
Not sure how much more I can watch. Germans have a different style of production. It has randomly kooky elements included. Example: she is facing off to fight someone, and instead of just going at it, they go to sumo stances. BOTH of them! Nothing so far had stated that this was a thing. Just random. Production appears very budget-minded, very German-like efficiency, I guess, if I’m allowed to stereotype a white people. I’ll try to power through the first season, but no guarantees, cuz the other show above I’m starting up.
I saw Banacek when it came out. It was entertaining, but I was always annoyed at the show because they withheld information (and even made a point of letting you know when they were withholding information) from the viewer, so you couldn’t solve the case.
Also on Prime: “The Green Hornet Strikes Back,” a movie-house serial from 1940.
Pretty shitty, though Keye Luke, the older, wiser guru of the “Kung Fu” TV series is Kato.
More complicated than it has to be.
Since I haven’t seen the first serial, I wonder why the Green Hornetmobile makes a buzzing sound instead of a regular car sound.
And there is this “gas gun” that “shoots” “gas” instead of bullets, so it only knocks someone out, not kill them.
No superpowers, though everyone simply spills their beans when he confronts them.
Oh, and “Flight of the Bumblebee” is the main soundtrack of this. THEY’RE NOT THE SAME INSECT!!!
Always a cliffhanger at the end of each episode. “Star Wars”-like scroll at the beginning of each episode.
Agreed. Was watching S2E1: 3-ton statue goes missing. I recall the solution, but wanted to watch to see if there were any clues. None. OK, there was a very quick shot of the artist chiseling something and just off-center we were supposed to see something missing.
There was a scene with him and his chauffeur at a bridge. Easily could have shown a sign in the background.
I watched Kleo and enjoyed the first season. I gave the second season a shot but didn’t think it was as good as the first. One of those shows that maybe should have been a one and done?
Season 2 of A Man On the Inside. Felt this was a worthy season 2. Truly binged in one afternoon. Ted Danson got to play against Mary Steenburgen as his love interest. One of the co-stars was Max Greenfield and in the last episode, there was a tip of the hat to Veronica Mars, which he was in. Nice touch.
My wife loved A Man on the Inside but I was lukewarm on it. That means we have to watch Season 2.
Pluribus: Nice to see John Cena show up in a cameo (even if Carol said it wasn’t the real John Cena). I enjoyed his small role in The Bear last year.
So my wife and I watched the first three episodes of Season 2. I was pleasantly surprised: much better than Season 1 so far. I love Mary Steenburgen being in it.
Pluribus: The last episode of season one just dropped at midnight.
Ok, finished this. Basic 70s TV. More complicated than necessary. Ladies’ man gets the girl, even when the girl is guilty. Some great 70s cars in the background to watch.
Oh, and if everyone thinks that something happened to make something disappear, thst is not how it happened, or the something never existed. A lot of out-of-the-box solutions.
The Leftovers. Just started season two.
Still need to watch this one, along with Stranger Things
Moon Haven - Netflix. A bit of a different take on the dystopian/utopian sci-fi theme. Had plans for multi season arc but was a filming casualty or COVID restrictions. Not great but not bad. Only 6 episodes so not a huge time commitment.
Last Samurai Standing - Netflix this was pretty good if you like the genre. Has been renewed for S2 which I’ll most likely watch.
Legion - Hulu 2015-2017 so an older one. Interesting take on the superhero genre from an un reliable narrator perspective. We’ll probably watch this one through.
i think i am behind on finishing stranger things. mrs f has likely watched the final episodes twice or more by now. i’ll do it just to complete it i guess.
