Did you know there was a Guy Ritchie movie called The Gentlemen that came out right around the time covid hit, so it’s theater run was virtually non existent. It starred Matthew McConaughey. It also had Hugh Grant and Charlie Hunnam.
Does the series followup from the movie or are the more or less independent? Or duplicate?
i think i saw it during covid. was alright and I now see the connection more clearly (but remember little detail of the movie).
I’ve been watching Suits lately. It started off great. But it’s getting silly. Midway thru Season 6.
Jessica just announced she’s leaving the firm
Does it get better, or continue the slippery slope into cheesy-ness.
The series is sort of a new take on the original movie script. The movie was told from the perspective of the pot magnate who was attempting to cash out of the business. The series is told from the perspective of the nobleman (a Duke) that owns the property where the pot is grown, and he wants out of the business. So the answer to your question is most closely “duplicate” but they are different enough to not be too redundant. Both are worth watching.
My opinion is that the cheesiness stayed at a consistent, high level. I watched it while it aired. The constant back and forth of the lawyers being besties then pissed off at each other (Mike, Harvey, and Lewis) was maddeningly redundant.
Jessica left because they tried to spin her off into another show, but that show crashed and burned quickly. I think she came back for a little bit.
Our Flag Means Death, my husband has had it on his list a while. It’s goofy.
A few episodes into “Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek.” Through to the end of the Original Cast Movies. On Prime.
The behind-scenes stories are pretty interesting: writers and directors and shitty effects people (not ILM).
Would have preferred the originally basic-cable show (The “History” Channel) had been edited to include the swearing.
Finished Palm Royale. The last 2 episodes were caricatures and wrapped up in a crash landing of sorts i think. it was just ok.
started The Flight Attendant. entertaining enough through two eps.
cool, was unaware of this
premise is good. main character a train wreck.
least favorite thing for me is the main character goes to an imaginary space a lot. sometimes to talk to the dead guy (where info gets shared or observations are recalled). those parts add and are worth it.
sometimes it’s just her running through some place and yelling that she doesn’t want to be there. those cut aways are a waste of time
Was sick over the weekend and binged Fallout. It feels like Last of Us meets The Boys (but way less vulgar). I thought it was awesome.
Just started Shogun. I read the book and several others in the series right after college and have forgotten almost everything.
Plan on watching The Sympathizer next.
I have seen the first 2 episodes. I find the timeline jumping (many flash forwards and flashbacks) to be distracting to the story continuity.
King of Queens. Cuz baby, all my life I will be drivin’ home to you.
Dead Boy Detectives- Netflix. Reasonably entertaining. If you are a fan of Neil Gaiman or shows like Lockwood & company, you’ll probably enjoy this one.
I started up “The Sympathizer” on HBO/MAX. It is a satire of some sort. Robert Downey Jr plays four parts. Two episodes in. Wife has already bailed. I’ll see it through.
South Vietnamese Captain is actually North spy. End of the war, and he expects to stay home when it is over, but his overlords want him to follow his South General to USA and keep spying there. He went to college before starting his spy career.
Lots of mish-mash flashing back that is not all that necessary except for dramatic effect. Whole thing is told from a rehash of the lead who is in some kind of Vietnamese (?) prison, where he is forced to rewrite his story over and over. So, first, we know he will get out of any dangerous situation during the series. But how? Ah, that’s the drama! And hopefully the satire.
Sandra Oh plays a cynical ABC secretary to an Orientophile (it was the 70’s before that was changed to Asiaophile) professor (Downey) and our lead’s hella-lover. Will watch more, but I’m essentially caught up.
The Fugitive - complete TV series Hip_tiger_wife got on DVD
OK. I did not understand this. I thought he was the same guy in different time periods and that it was all part of the flashbacks and flash forwards.
I’m not a big fan of Sandra Oh. What is a hella-lover? I understand she is a cougar bedding the protagonist.
She gets naked. I respect that.
Spoiler alert!!
Eh, I have trouble believing that a professor could also be in Vietnam as a CIA agent. Possibly at the same time.
Two more roles have not been shown, but I’ll keep this theory in mind.
