What are you watching (bingeing) these days?

finished it last night. took us 5 nights?

by disengenuous, if you mean TERRIBLE then i agree. it had moments that were ok. it had scenes with some decent tension and wonder. it had oceans of terrible dialog or super one dimensional shit.

@YankeeTripper it did not hold up for me on the first watch. 2nd watch would have o be MST3K style mocking

best think about it was the main character was super attractive IMO.

@The_Drunken_Actuary great to hear from you!

Finished the last season of Loudermilk. Really enjoyed it.

Now on to season 2 of Reacher.

My wife and I now watch at least two episodes of Loudermilk every night. He has really grown on us. They are very good at introducing new characters and situations.

watched American Nightmare.

good god, what a cluster-f of intentionally unhelpful and terrible police work.

I mostly meant it seemed very contrived that the main character had a pretty critical piece of infomation about a murder she was trying to solve but the audience didn’t know she knew.

It reminded me of those Dateline episodes where they spend 20 minutes making a suspect look guilty only to tell us he had an airtight alibi that the police knew about from the beginning and was never really a suspect in the first place.

Good to see everyone!

I didn’t cancel my Apple TV yet. So I got charged for one month of $7, then, within two weeks of the first charge, got a ā€œwe’re upping the costā€ email. I’m halfway through season 3 of Ted Lasso, so I should finish that before the next payment, but I’m still thinking of trying The Afterparty and Schmigadoon.

Pluto on Netflix. Scifi anime about robots/humans/ethics and war. Good series.

Just started Sense8 - this one is weird. Not sure if we’ll stick with it, the first few episodes jump around quite a bit so hoping the story lines start to tie in together soon.

Painkiller on Netflix. Well done historical drama about Oxy and Pharma+FDA corruption. Dopesick is good too (Hulu?)

Dallas Buyers Club too.

Sense8 is one of my favorite shows, partly because I adore Jamie Clayton, but it is also queer AF which might not be everyone’s cup of tea, and gets more so in the second season which Lana did solo. I think the Wachowskis complement each other well – Lana’s solo projects feel a bit overly bright and optimistic, and I assume Lilly helps dial that back in their better works.

I watched Pluto when it first came out, and thought it was impressive. Super confusing murder mystery, but impressive ā€œfuture worldā€ building.

Several anime YouTubers had it in their ā€œTop 10 animeā€ lists for 2023. They mentioned the fact that this is an intentional update to Astro Boy. That was a blast back in the olden days.

I finished watching Fool Me Once last week - it was pretty good. Yeah, I was really annoyed by the VERY contrived writing. But the last episode was satisfying.

Starting on Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Cool to see the cameos (only 2 episodes in so some cameos could be longer term). We get Alexander SkarsgƄrd, Paul Dano and John Tutturro so far.

But now there is no more Cheers in Mudville,
The Mighty Malone has proposed to someone
But now there is no more joy in DTNF-ville
The Mighty Hulu has struck out.

(Apparently it is on Paramount+. )

Finished Mr & Mrs Smith. Quite the ride. They do a lot of bad things and sometimes not too well. Looks like only Paul Dano has a second episode as the neighbor.

The last thing he told me, on apple tv

My wife finished that book, just found out thexseries is on apple. So, i guess we will be watching it.

finished the 7 episodes. some parts were frustratingly bad. (timeline issues. last name/family stuff that didn’t match. weird things said like they were a reference to something that didn’t make the broadcast I guess.) it was ok

I finished Ted Lasso and, other than liking season 1 the best, it didn’t disappoint.

I’m a few episodes into Schmigadoon (and each season is only 6 episodes). I’m enjoying it so far. It’s not exactly funny so much as just keeping a little smile on your face. The biggest humor is either in the self-awareness of the two main characters being in a musical or from the tropes that run through the show. The only real downside so far has been that Key’s character is treading close to being unlikeable at times because he’s repeatedly been the main initial source of conflict between the two main characters.

I started watching Marry My Husband on Amazon. I thought it was going to be sci-fi with some time travel element, but it’s more of a love story where a couple of people both die tragically, then wake up ten years prior with a chance to re-do their lives and make different choices and try to avoid their fate. Anyway, it’s a super-cheesy Korean soap opera with some light comedy and I got sucked into watching the whole thing. I have 2 episodes left. Interesting to see their takes on office culture and romance and social norms. Very different than here in the US

Watching Poker Face finally. I really didn’t like the pilot and was worried it would all be like that, but the rest of the show has been really entertaining. We have another four episodes to go.
