There was a movie in 2004 called A Day Without a Mexican
In this controversial mockumentary, all California based Mexicans, who represent a third of the state’s population, inexplicably disappear and before long the lack of these Latino maids, construction workers, policemen, teachers etc, lead to a social, political and economic disaster which threatens the whole concept of the Californian Dream.
I could see Bernie being really competitive. Just embrace the socialism label and argue all the positives. I wouldn’t personally want those policies but I can imagine him being very competitive.
The new district is also super red. I’m somewhat surprised she won the primary, but given that she won the primary I would expect the general election victory.
That’s why I think the Sanders bet is to just embrace the socialism and appeal to all the less than median wage earners about all the cake and ponies he can deliver.
What we really need to reach the working class in rural America is the Transphobic, Christian Nationalist, Anti-Immigration, pro-gun, anti-tax, anti-regulation, anti-entitlement, Capitalist version of Bernie Sanders.
I’m sure he’s out there somewhere, we just got to find him.
That’s the Trump coalition, so where do you focus what you hope to peel out of it.
There is a lot of overlap between those groups, but Biden appealed to the working class group enough to win, so the deciding factor can be a positive American value.
