United States Presidential & Congressional Election 2024

A lot of role models whom most moms would like their kids to emulate:

He said that Harris’s polling numbers are being penalized 2% for the post convention bounce and that may not be a reasonable assumption.

Snap reaction from the Harris/Walz interview last night:

Democrats - it was a fantastic interview, they knocked it out of the park, start picking out curtains for the White House.

Republicans - the worst interview of a Presidential candidate evar, reinforces that she’s the most unqualified candidate evar, anyone considering voting for her after that is a moron.

In other words: everything you could have written a week ago.

Actually, in some Conservative groups I’m in, I’ve seen people say that she came across pretty well in the interview.
They said the issue was with CNN - the questions were softballs, and when she deflected and didn’t answer questions, they did not press her at all. They said it seemed like the interview was designed to make her look good, instead of being neutral.
I didn’t see it, so I don’t have an opinion either way.

Yeah, I think it’s just low sample size. Just like Twig was asking earlier why PA was positive for Harris when the polls looked negative.

That said… Nate’s model was run at Noon yesterday, and in the evening Bloomberg posted a positive PA poll. Let’s see if there’s a bounce.

Also, goes without saying, an extra 5% p(winning) is basically nothing.

I thought it was a fair interview. Dana Bash certainly pressed her on “why did you change your stance since 2019” on a couple of the policy topics…de-criminalizing the border was one of them. I liked her response that “her values have not changed” which acknowledges policy specifics can without having to say “my opponent was right” in a way that suggests you have adopted their view.

I think she needs to work a bit on her response to Bidenomics and recognize that COVID spending was more than necessary and contributed to inflation, but they quickly realized that and focused their policy to benefit Americans while bringing that back down to acceptable levels. I am not a PR expert so I am not saying that is right either, but it felt like there was more of an opportunity to demonstrate what had been learned in the context of a problem that actually spanned both administrations and where they are actually promising a fiscal policy that will continue to reduce this going forward as opposed to Trump.

They did ask a few softball “get to know her” type questions, and to Walz as well. They came after the difficult policy questions. Does Trump get similar treatment? Whether he is even asked a softball is one possibility, but how he answers the softball is quite different as he seems unable to transition from being combative on a tough question to being able to act human in something that should be easy.

That Harris and Walz can laugh and joke during an interview and appear to be normal humans while Trump can’t do this regardless of the questions is something important to keep in mind.

And rinse and repeat for the reaction to the upcoming Trump-Harris debate.

I don’t think anything that Trump or Harris says from here on in is going to move the needle enough for a significant shift in support. Certainly Trump can say anything and it doesn’t diminish his existing support.

Sadly, I continue my longstanding prediction of another Trump Presidency. Harris wins the popular vote but Trump wins the vote that matters.

14% for Harris doesn’t sound too far off. In the last 100 years, 12% (3 out of 25) presidential terms were not completed - FDR (declining health then death), JFK (assassination) and Nixon(impending impeachment). Harris is a bit older than the median age at inauguration of 55 but given that she’s a woman and women in the US have a higher life expectancy by 5.8 years, it’s a wash.

Go back just a little further and you can add Harding.

I was tempted but then I wouldn’t have such an easy denominator.

Excel is your friend.

That’s what it tells me but I don’t know how many times it’s kept me waiting.

Didn’t say it was a great friend. Definitely B-List.

Y’all have some serious grade inflation out West.

It’s like grad school. A B is barely acceptable. A C means you should probably drop out and find an easier major.

Sorry, this is not related to GPA in any way.

And you usually had one or two really tough classes in your degree that weeded out a portion of the students every year.

Is this a serious question?

Kamala Harris and Doug Emhof are currently the Vice President and Second Gentleman of the United States.

If she wins then upon her being sworn in, they will be the President and First Gentleman of the United States.
