I would expect someone with touches of social anxiety could relate.
What Vance was doing at the donut shop wasn’t buying donuts. He was trying to be seen interacting and doing regular things. It takes a bit of an actor, or politician, say, to appear sincere and a person of the people while doing mundane stuff. I know I would weird out if I knew I were on camera. That’s why folks also criticized his team for not prepping him and releasing it anyway.
Yet he says the woman with two adopted children, quote, “has no children of her own” and says she should have her own kids. I plan to adopt and expect to consider my child “my own.”
Edit: Didn’t read the existing responses above.
It’s super weird how he considers his wife’s kids to be kids that “she has”, while adopted kids are “not your kids” and stepchildren are “not your kids”, and if they weren’t naturally conceived he wants to know all of the medical details about whether it was sperm or an embryo implanted into you because… who knows anymore.
They are not allowed to teach if they don’t have kids?
They are not allowed to teach other kids, only their own?
Hey, dumbass, if you don’t want public school teachers teaching your children, then you take them out of the public schools AND LEAVE THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS THE HELL ALONE!
Eh, that only happened somewhere around 2018-2020 when he began pivoting to be MAGA. You can’t be an open atheist, as he previously was, and MAGA. You have to talk a lot about Christian God and occasionally take a photoshoot with a Bible.
We’ve learned from Trump, you only need to go to a church about 1x/year to get your Christian Nationalist Card saying that you’re in the correct religion for the next year.
Both in being a lawyer and politician, I’d expect some degree of social skills. Having social anxiety, I’d have the wherewithal to prep for something with that degree of being on stage. Whether that was how bad he performed with prep or whether he decided to wing it, that’s not the type of person who belongs in that kind of diplomatic role.
Or, only men should teach. Women: stay at home in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant, and where the hell is my sammish?!?!
These sub-humans need to remember their place.
Good point. I think the role of VP in the executive branch is somewhat ill-defined, and depending what the President wants, you do whatever. But diplomacy when the President is unavailable is a big role. I have to wonder if the foreign politicians think “Why am I meeting with this schmuck” whenever they get the VP. That being said, I’d also be comfortable with a VP who is less a schmoozer and more of a wonk (assuming they are aligned with what I want from govt). The President can be more of the charismatic unifier, and VP more a behind the scenes person, IMO. I haven’t really dug into Vance to make a well-informed judgment. It seems clear he is not as stupid as Trump, but he isn’t too good of a politician, either. I do hold the MAGA conversion against him though.
He did say she should have some of her own. If you were adopting a child would you say I’m having a child.
To “have” a child means to give birth. This can be a little confusing because to “have a child” also simply means that you are a parent and your son or daughter exists . But you usually use “have” in the present tense to mean that you are a parent:
It’s also worth noting that Randi Weingarten, who as was pointed out does have (adopted step) kids, is gay, and Vance was speaking to a group that is hostile to the LGBTQ+ population. It’s hard not to think that part of his point is that lesbian moms aren’t real mothers.
