Also, Thiel is pretty right-wing, so they probably agree on just about everything except whether gay people are icky or not. You don’t even have to be all that opportunistic to ignore that one difference in political ideology.

Vance also knows full well that his new “base” is anti-gay, so he went all in with his “positioning” right away when he ran for Senate.
Worth noting that Thiel bankrolled his run in a big way so he knows 100% what Vance is doing.
Its basically all BS for consumption of the MAGA masses.
Am sure Thiel will get lots of public contracts once JD is in office (which is one of the things Thiel really wants)

haha, that’s exactly what I was thinking. Thiel has a big stake in palantir and Musk obviously wants AI deregulation and wants to replace NASA.
I hadn’t realized that Project 2025 includes a provision to do away with NFIP (federal flood insurance).
The relevant section of the Project 2025 handbook:
They’re not wrong in pointing out that NFIP is effed. However, I think they’re underestimating insurers’ appetite for additional cat risk, or the number of consumers that would be affected.

Picking Vance makes it harder to deny that Project 2025 is the goal. Heard it pointed out that Project 2025 doesn’t call for an abortion ban in those words, rather promotes fetal personhood, which would result in bans on abortion, IVF, some forms of contraception, … If that sounds like something that wouldn’t possibly pass, some Republican Senators have stated that the SCOTUS ruling protecting contraception was wrongly decided, and they recently blocked bills to enshrine protection for IVF and contraception.

Although Project 2025 doesn’t call for a national abortion ban, 63% of abortion in 2023 were done by abortion medication and much of that was mailed, which would be shut down, and many other restrictions placed.
The article looks pretty balanced. It calls out Kamala Harris for “incorrectly” stating that Trump and Project 2025 want a national abortion ban, though it’s clear that they’re closely aligned with groups who ardently want such a ban. It also calls out a few Republicans claiming things like post-birth abortions happen for up to 3 days after birth.
Apparently Mitch McConnell’s reporting of the KY delegates last night was drowned out with boos. McConnell has consistently been one of the most effective Republican legislators and is the reason why Trump appointed as many judges as he did, and got the Trump tax cuts passed, and is now booed at the convention?
It’s also worth noting that there is a living, two-term Republican President who will not be mentioned or present at the convention, and none of the 3 living Republican Vice Presidents will be at the convention. The party has been completely hijacked.

I see Vance as a declaration that Trump doesn’t have to “reach out” to anyone. He has the election won, Just pick somebody he likes. Vance has been a big cheerleader for Trump.
