This hasn’t stopped her in the past.
it was a hypothetical.
Yeah, I don’t see Kamala getting much support at the top of the ticket if she ever does run for President. Of course I’d pick her over Trump, but I don’t think she can win the primary.
This is a wild list to me. What do you like about DeSantis that you dislike about Trump, especially considering you like Biden more than Trump?
Trump and DeSantis have similar policies that they’d pass. The main difference is that Trump is a total moron and DeSantis seems of fairly average intelligence.
Yeah, she seems like she’s maxed out her capacity to win higher office.
Apparently, so do many of the posters ITT. :nttawwt:
This is America, we don’t stop campaigning!
I wouldn’t vote.
Desantis is not a sociopath. I’m a conservative also. He’s a little right of me, but not way right of me. He’s also not somewhat intelligent, he is extremely intelligent and a capable governor.
I don’t dislike Trump’s policies, he just cannot be trusted with the keys of our government in his hands.
I like Joe Biden the person. He seems like a good man, however he has shown he is an incompetent executive.
My list of names from this thread in order:
Mayor Pete (slightly left of me and thoughtful)
Desantis (slightly right of me and competent)
Biden
Newsome (no Dem from CA can win a national election)
Kamala (see above and add unpopular)
Trump
I wish Trump had not poisoned the well on businessfolk as I think Jamie Dimon would be a good President. Most businessfolk are super sensible though. They would be too centric for either base even though they would make great Presidents.
While I agree with much of what you say, I’d argue DeSantis and Buttigieg are probably less close than you imply.
And Trump policies where they existed were all nationalist and protectionist. Within conservative thought I think Jamie Dimon and Trump/DeSantis would be almost policy opposites.
And Trumpist. Never forget that this was about bettering himself and his family, financially and emotionally securely (cuz Obama made fun of him 10 years ago).
Well yeah you’ve first gotta carve out the whole wanting to turn America into an autocracy to be able to have a reasonable policy comparison
Corporate businessfolk, who have to deal with some restrictions on their amount of power, sure.
The egotistical ones who control their own companies want that same level of control once they’re in office. (See: Perot, H. Ross, and several other wannabes.)
I think businessfolk make for horrific presidents. Running a country is nothing like running a business.
Then you are pretty far to the right because DeSantis has been running Florida in a very right wing way. Wasn’t he also part of the Tea Party Caucus while he was in the house? He’s not even remotely moderate.
His anti-CRT crusade was stupid and purly pandering. His support of the “Dont say gay bill” is terrible and stupid. It’s also more pandering to his base.
So you might be correct. DeSantis went to Harvard Law School, so he’s most likely very smart, but he doesn’t act that way as a politician. Instead, he simply panders to the Trumpers and far right portions of his party.
Looking at how he runs FL has me terrified about how he will run the country (my current belief is that he’s the 2024 front-runner).
It’ll be interesting to see how much his constituents like him in a couple of decades when all of their homes are underwater because he isn’t a “climate change believer”. He went as far as to ban FL cities from having the ability to move to renewable energy sources.
I guess I have to hope that Pete runs.
These are never the ones with big enough egos or enough disposible money to run for president.
are you sure about that?
Nor, want to take a cut in pay!
Like you, I’m not sure DeSantis isn’t a sociopath. However, I do think that all three of us can get on the same page that Trump is clearly more unhinged than DeSantis.
Honestly, the Trump cult scares me more than Trump.
If someone like desantis could maneuver himself to being the leader of that, bad things would be on the way.

Not a congressional election, but here’s an interesting gubernatorial strategy the Dems appear to be taking in MD. The GOP frontrunner Schullz is more of a traditional republican and she’s running against a MAGA nutter. The Dems are running ads that appear to be boosting the MAGA candidate, presumably because that sort of opponent should be easier for them to defeat in the general election:
MAGA guy Dan Cox won the primary. Have to wait until the general election to see whether this was a wise strategy by the D’s.
