Round II coming up.
Prices in the US are slowly trending up so this is likely to make it worse.

Man this is dumb. One way to make life cheaper for Americans is to give them access to $5-$10k Chinese EVs.
This is why Canada should not bother renewing the “free trade” agreement with the US.
I’ll give you a topic…
“Canada’s free-trade agreement with the U.S. has no free trade, nor is it an agreement”
Discuss.
Wow, whoever signed that didn’t read the fine print. tRump would have started renegotiating this right after his 2021 inauguration had the election not been stolen (people are saying).
the proposed tariffs on pharma will definitely bring down the cost of medical care, right?
Canadian prescription meds, even with a tariff, will still probably be cheaper than American meds.
Yes. But the US based folks who buy meds from Canada are going to take a financial hit.
More cancellations to come I would imagine.
Canada-US trade is mostly Canada selling natural resources in exchange for american technology. It’s a good way to think about it in terms of a simplified two good economy. Personally I don’t think small tariffs like 25% will really do much. Trump needs to increase it even more to really restructure the relationship. I don’t think it would be that bad for Canada to be less reliant, technology speaking, on America. We already send a lot of our STEM talent to the United States.
One million Canadians travel to the US each winter but those numbers will drop this year and next.
I was surprised that the Florida hotel proprietor in the
article didn’t understand why Canadians were staying away and were rebooking to go to a one-party state like Cuba. It’s simple: Cuba is not threatening us!

Good way to pick up cheap hotel properties when they go on sale.
They’re only cheap if you don’t need property insurance.
Trump and Trudeau primarily discussed Ukraine on a call yesterday but Canada-US border security also came up. The WH readout from the call gives me optimism that Trump can declare a “victory” here and defer or cancel the threatened March tariffs.
“On bilateral relations and Mr. Trump’s threat to hit Canada with hefty tariffs on March 4, Mr. Trudeau emphasized recent Canadian border measures. Canada is spending $1.3-billion on new border measures, has named a fentanyl czar and declared seven transnational crime groups, including Mexican cartels, as terrorist organizations.
“Prime Minister Trudeau then informed President Trump that Canada has enforced a 90 percent reduction in fentanyl crossing the U.S. Northern Border, and that the Canadian Border Czar would be in the United States next week,” the White House readout said.”
Well, we could come up with a new type of insurance product.
World Beating MAGA Insurance ![]()
I typed that out in jest but now I realise I don’t want to give Trump any ideas.
Well, you know, now that Trump is purging America of all that nasty DEI, catastrophes will no longer be a problem for the US insurance industry. ![]()
It says he moved from Canada some decades ago and is now a Trump fan. Makes sense that he couldn’t understand as Trump voters are not really known for their ability to see things from someone else’s point of view.
Trump proceeding with March tariffs because of our supposed border security issues. Canada addressed his concerns but I don’t think it mattered what we did.
It is disappointing and will hurt both countries.

I watched this video first this morning and later found the news article. Pretty interesting changes to our import policy, causing chaos.
I expect this is why the other tariffs to be implemented in February against Canada and Mexico were delayed until next week. Someone told Trump you have to set up mechanisms to collect them.
Improvements in Canadian border security over the past few months pay off with large meth seizures, but the meth was going from the US to Canada.
