Things that bother you more than they should

However, going to see SNL in personis on my bucket list.

If the actuary makes the C-suite then yes, a $60k car is well within their price range but most actuaries don’t make it that high. You can play around with the Actuarial Careers salary survey to see how many people they have to manage before they make big bucks.

A six-figure bonus will never be within reach for me (and I’m very okay with that).

This year, I’ll be happy with a four-figure bonus.

I’ve been in non-profits for the past several years so most years I don’t get a bonus, though there were a couple times I got a 4-figure bonus as an ā€œincentiveā€ to stick around for a few months after a boss left the company. Not much of an incentive IMO, since any company who would want to hire me would most likely offer more than that as a salary increase, but since I had no plans to leave the job anyway it was nice to have a few extra bucks.

I may be worse at the Excels.

Boxing Day e-mails about great deals at the mall. Even in a normal year, I hate going to the malls on Boxing Day!!! :-1:

I thought Boxing Day was Black Friday, though I’m guessing there’s actually more wrestling than boxing going on

No, Boxing Day is December 26. Which is also the second day of Christmas and the first day of Kwanzaa.

Don’t think it’s humane to stick two turtledoves in a box - maybe I should replace them with two turtlenecks? And a beer.

So there’s Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. What are the other 7 days of Christmas?

I’m confused about who the ā€˜them’ is in this story.

I’m also confused about how to quote posts on this forum.

Huh? No, that’s not how it works.

Christmastide is the liturgical season that runs from December 25 - January 5. This is 12 days. The 12 days of Christmas.

Christmas Eve is NOT part of Christmastide. It is part of Advent which runs from the 4th Sunday before Christmas until December 24. Advent is therefore not a uniform number of days.

Ephiphany starts on January 6.

Them is they, they are/is my child (singular non-binary pronouns are difficult with choosing between correct conjugations of the verb to be), who was told by a person at their doctor’s office that they should simmer down about not having their depression medication (after multiple days and multiple calls to both the doctor’s office and the pharmacy, ahead of actually running out and after running out)

Highlight what you want to quote, and there’s a little quote popup you can click. You can multi-quote as well, by just scrolling up and highlighting another section, and clicking the quote popup again. It’s easier on desktop than mobile IME.

I just got those dilating drops at the optometrist. :eye: :eye:

What’s an actuary do at a nonprofit?

That probably bothers you as much or less than it should because according to multiple optometrists I’ve talked to… they no longer need to dilate.

Much of the same thing that actuaries do at for profit companies. Nonprofits include government agencies, rating boards, risk retention groups, and mutual insurers to name a few.

Ah. I was thinking like a charity.
