If you are paid 100k per month to denounce Ukraine and spread Russian war propaganda and don’t suspect that the money is coming from Russia, then you might not be smart enough to deserve a large audience.

Seems like there are two main possibilities here:
- Tim Pool et. al. were paid by Russians and told specifically what disinformation to say
- Tim Pool et. al. were paid by Russians because they already blindly parroted the disinformation that Russia wanted to spread more widely
Possibility #2 sounds like a waste of money for Russia?

I thought that being an idiot was a key to success on more than a few paths to Influencer fame.
Being an idiot is very competitive these days. It reminds me of a village in Wisconsin with a population of 35,000 where it was very difficult to become the village idiot.

I think there is a question of whether the money went straight into their pockets vs. funding the platform they were using.

IMO the Russian govt funded the expansion of their reach because they were already spreading a message that fit with the Kremlin narrative.
I see that their tactic is “by calling her by her first name, it’s a tiny degradation”, but the tactic feels quite tepid.
Names like “Kamachameleon” and “Kamaliar” make me cringe in secondhand embarrassment as somebody who isn’t diehard MAGA. Probably the best one I’ve heard is “Horrible Harris”, which at least alliterates even if it doesn’t strike me as humorous or pithy or catchy.
It’s hard to get the vitriol behind “Kamala” to stick as well as Barack Hussein Obama, even if they pretend they can’t pronounce it. It’s literally just VP Harris’ first name.
