Madoff was an American market maker, investment advisor, financier, and convicted fraudster who served a federal prison sentence for offenses related to a massive Ponzi scheme. He was at one time non-executive chairman of the NASDAQ stock market, before being revealed as and later confessing to having been the operator of the largest Ponzi scheme in world history, and the largest financial fraud in U.S. history. Prosecutors estimated the fraud to be worth $64.8 billion based on the amounts in the accounts of Madoff’s 4,800 clients as of November 30, 2008. He was sentenced to 150 years in Federal prison in 2009. He made off for the next world today only serving twelve of those years, passing away at age 82.
I was reading the WSJ obit this morning. His sons turned him in, and stopped talking to their mom when she supported him. One of them hanged himself with a dog leash a few years later. The other died of cancer, so he outlived them both.

Sir Cullen was a New Zealand politician. He served as Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, also Minister of Finance, Minister of Tertiary Education, and Attorney-General. He was the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party from 1996-2008, when he resigned following a defeat in the general election. He resigned from Parliament in April 2009, to become the deputy chairman of New Zealand Post in 2009 and chairman from 2010-2016. He died of lung cancer on August 19.

She died on September 5 at the age of 39.
