I agree lying is one of the worst traits for a leader to have. People seem to be ok with lying as long as it is a lie for their side though. That’s one of the most problematic trends I see in politics.
And yet trump was the king of lying and he stayed in office until the end. Cuomo will always be better than trump. Hard to scream for him to resign knowing this. Trump incited an insurrection at the Capitol and the republicans did not care. So why should I care about far lesser offenses by dems?
Yeah whataboutism isn’t too great either. If Democrats can justify anything because it’s better than Trump this country is screwed indeed. No one will be on the high road.
At least cuomo tried to control this pandemic. Cant say the same for trump
as much as I hate trump, I’m not sure that statement is entirely accurate.
yes, he’s anti mask, but he did shut down flights from china, and he did encourage vaccine research and production. And he did remove a lot of red tape
Held super spreader events and had zero plans for how to actually distribute the vaccine. We are doing well with distribution thanks to biden. Would be a disaster with trump. Flights from china is whatever. So did many other countries before us. His actions since to repeatedly downplay the virus and encourage people to gather thus spreading it is inexcusable.
Why are you overlooking his super spreader events as no big deal?
so you downplayed his actions against covid and upplayed his actions for covid.
that’s not a neutral evaluation
Super spreader events, many many many. He had covid and made the secret service drive him around on a covid tour where im sure they caught it. Trump is a scary excuse for a human being and leader. His negative actions are SO BAD that it does not matter that he did some positive things that any normal leader would do.
But Biden wasn’t going to shut down flights from China
You know this, why?
is shutting flights from China good or bad? Like you said, many countries did it. So either Trump is right in following suit, or Biden is right in saying it’s xenophobic and all the other countries who did this were wrong
No, biden said trump was xenophobic because he kept calling it the china virus and promoted hate towards asian americans, not because he stopped flights from europe. Anyway, bad argument regardless. Biden was not in office at the time and not privy to all the information. I’m sure had he been in office rather than a private citizen he would have stopped flights from china. Trump acts xenophobic and racist, so not outlandish to call him that as a private citizen
It was also the flights from europe, not china that overwhelmed New York and east coast states with the virus. European flights werent stopped until it was way too late.
That’s fine. I’m just saying that it’s not entirely true that Trump didn’t try to stop the virus.
I’m saying his bad actions are so bad that his normal presidential ones dont count
The not stopping flights from europe is forgivable. The super spreader events and downplaying and flat out trolling covid is not forgivable
I am confused about the distribution. The last day Trump was in office didn’t they vaccinate around 1M a day? Aren’t the individual distribution plans really tied to each state? Isn’t Florida doing vaccinations in grocery shops, while NY/NJ are doing it in places like the Javits Center?
Biden certainly procured a lot more vaccinations. The Trump administration shouldn’t have only bought a 100M vaccines when that’s only enough for 50M people.
Certainly under the Biden administration the amount of vaccines a day has increased. I am looking for the numbers but I was under the impression it’s at like 1.3-1.5M a day now.
I’m not sure. I was under the impression that Trump was doing some threatening to hold back the vaccine from states who weren’t nice enough to him (i.e. NY) and also there was some confusion where states thought they were getting vaccine, and then it didn’t come in the amount they thought because Trump either fucked up or didn’t care. I don’t have exact numbers. Seems like it’s running much more smoothly now and without the insanity of Trump. In the end, all Trump cared about was that the election was “stolen” from him. He didn’t care about vaccinating Americans.
Biden also pushed forward a deal between J&J and Merck to produce the vaccine. Apparently they were rivals, J&J had a vaccine, but not the ability to produce it, and Merck didn’t have a vaccine, but had the ability to produce it, so Biden negotiated with them to join forces and that’s why we have huge vaccination numbers at the Javits Center right now. A huge amount is J&J being administered all overnight.
I believe the J&J deal was well under way under the prior administration. The Biden administration certainly closed the deal.
I don’t know about a lot of the conjecture you mention in your post. The prior administration gave NY a ton of ventilators and a boat. I highly doubt they would have held back vaccine. I would not be surprised if many of the individuals who worked on the details were involved in both administrations (this is conjecture by my part).
Certainly high level guidance is much more organized right now. Either way, it is certainly smoother now.
There was a lot of Trump being Trump and playing games with said ventilators saying that cuomo better be nice to him if he wants them. It was all childish bullshit. I don’t know if we ultimately got what we asked for (probably not) and it wasn’t ultimately needed, but Trump’s attitude was terrifying there. He would troll Cuomo on twitter, mocking him during his press briefings.
Trump was a child having a tantrum during much of covid, rather than a leader.
I don’t disagree with you there. Certainly his tantrums and his walking around without a mask led to people disregarding the CDC and medical advice and even encouraging detrimental and dangerous behaviors.
I don’t think he held back on the ventilators though. NY was close to hitting capacity, but I don’t think they did.
I will add interestingly putting people on ventilators was actually not the best approach. My wife tells me that they have better strategies now and they don’t immediately put people on ventilators as it creates situations that people might never come off it. She has seen hundreds of COVID patients at this point.
