The downfall of Andrew Cuomo

yeah, this stuff was more acceptable back in the day than it is now. cuomo is from a time when it was more acceptable. old people have a hard time adjusting their attitudes. so for that reason too, it might be more forgivable. not great that he did it, but i’m not sure he needs to resign over it.

I never had a boss-type hit on me at work. The worst I had was this creepy dude who hit on all the women pull my hair. I stopped him dead in his tracks and told him to get the fuck away from me and never do that again. That was the end of that. Not sure how I would have handled it had he been my boss. He wound up getting some sexual harassment allegations towards him from younger women who felt more threatened and was eventually fired for incompetence, not sexual harassment.

Yeah, my mom thought Kavanough should be given a pass on the attempted rape, not because she thought he was innocent, but because it happened a long time ago. And basically, because “boys will be boys”. She was pretty harsh with how he handled himself in front of Congress, though, because that was current.

:astonished: i haven’t asked my mother about kavanaugh, but his actions, even if a long time ago were absolutely horrifying, and would scar this woman for life. He had zero consequences for those unforgivable actions.

Cuomo otoh was a bit creepy. I feel as though if Cuomo did to me what he did to those women, particularly the one he met at that wedding where there was less of an inbalance of power, I’d be creeped out, but I’d get over it. I don’t think those actions were life scarring. Kavanaugh’s absolutely were.

I don’t buy that someone who is cool with raping a woman, and never had any consequences in their 20’s is suddenly a good guy who is all for respecting women and the law decades later.

“You can find hundreds of pictures of me making the same gesture with hundreds of people – women, men, children, etc.,” Cuomo said.

Regarding the face in hands pic. I think such a claim could be backed by those pictures. Let us see some more.

I’m confused by this question. Why would May 31 mean July/August?

Are you thinking that they will fail to deliver on the May 31 projection, or are you saying that May 31 refers to some date other than the date by which any American who wants a vaccine will have had an opportunity to get both shots? (Or one, in the case of J&J)

I think it’s the question of does May 31 equal shots in arms for everyone who wants one, or does May 31 equal having produced enough doses for everyone who wants one, but not actually in arms yet? I haven’t read the original info to know if this was addressed.

Yes that was my question.

Just went and looked it up. End of May is timeline for production, not distribution.

What Andrew Cuomo’s Five Accusers Have Said About His Alleged Sexual Misconduct (msn.com)

with all 5 of these it is just creepy stuff, no rape or assault. i’m waiting for that type of accusation. also he was married at the time of the Karen Hinton accusation. Makes it worse. Still not thinking this is resign worthy.

okay, the one who bugs me is that chick who he met at a wedding, anna ruch. he was not her boss, was not in a position of power over her, so if he creeped her out, why didn’t she just walk away? instead, she got angry, bitched to friends and now went to the press? to me what he did was typical creepy man. you walk away from that. you don’t go to the press.

they are talking seriously about impeaching cuomo on NY1. seems like a real possibility. :grimacing:

Do NYers think he is a good governor? Honestly, I haven’t ever been impressed. But I am pretty biased for seeing first hand what his bullying was like ten years ago.

it’s mixed. he got a huge following with his press briefings on covid in the past year with a hero type of worship. replublicans hate him. it sounds like dems are mixed. some think he’s a bully jerk. a bunch of dems are calling for him to resign or be impeached right now.

Um not sure if that answers my question. More interested if he actually did anything that helped anyone…I guess if you think he did a good job handling COVID that would be one thing. I am not particularly convinced. He closed the state pretty late (mid-March I recall). Retrospectively, with the nursing homes it appears his policy wasn’t great there (he was like the first governor who had to deal with it - so it’s a little unfair saying xyz state did a better job - when they already saw what other policies resulted in. Also NYC is incredibly densely populated - and I am not sure other states compare well because of it.).

I watched many of his press conferences over the year. It pretty much was the same thing every time. He would say NY doesn’t have enough ventilators or beds and talked about the army ship and getting the Javits Center up and running. The models they were using were obviously flawed (and probably flawed for a lot of states).

My personal thoughts was that a lot of his actions were reactionary. If COVID cases went up or down or deaths he would react in a certain predictable way. Almost following the trend. I am not saying that’s a bad policy. More like I didn’t really see anything special with how he handled the situation. I think Governor Murphy who copied Cuomo on a lot of the policy, actually handled it a bit better. He was less restrictive and reactionary in some of his policies.

To me being a good on-screen television personality doesn’t make you necessarily good leader (I believe there are some recent examples of this we can point to as well).

oh, cuomo has lots of charisma, AND he encouraged mask use and social distancing (which the horrid president discouraged), so the threshold for doing a good job was pretty low. in hindsight, if the president wasn’t beyond incompetent in handling the pandemic, i’m not sure cuomo would have stood out.

I agree - Cuomo stood out as an alternative leader to Trump who had messaging that was generally useful in how we needed to deal with the pandemic. He was also relevant in that it was hitting NYC really badly at that point - no just some random person with an opinion.

NYS legislature is calling for him to resign.

They are saying that those in the state legislature do not like him because he is a bully. So he has few allies with this scandal. He might need to resign because his lack of friends could result in him being removed with impeachment
