The covid virgins club

Right? Hoping my next vaccine is not moderna.

lol no. My doctor is my friend. And paxlovid is praised highly in our circle (of privilege).

He didn’t ask any specific questions about risk, just prescribed it.

The bf’s doctor is just a random doctor, and only checked complications with existing drugs he’s taking, and still prescribed it.
I don’t think the under 50 thing is strictly adhered over here.

yeah, i got moderna for 2 boosters, the 2nd being the bivalent booster. i had side effects both times. it only lasted about a day though.

i think that pfizer has fewer side effects.

sounds like from what lucy said that it’s not a requirement that you be at risk or over 50 anymore to get it. probably still depends on the doctor. i suspect my doctor wouldn’t prescribe it, but my doctor sucks.

my sister got covid 3 weeks after getting the booster. that might have been why it was a pretty covid-lite case. although, her first bout of covid also wasn’t that bad, but it too wasn’t that long after getting a booster.

The UK is only recommending three doses for people under 50 with no special risk factors. (They include risks of spreading covid among risk factors, do they include people who work in retail and people who live with an immunocompromised person as “high risk”.) They are recommending a “seasonal booster” (which is similar to our bivalent booster, but with ba.1, not bad.4/5) for those over 50 plus those at risk.

So you probably met the UK recommendation.

:notes: like a virgin. HEEEEE touched for the very first time :notes:

guys, i flew on saturday and still think i’m covid free almost 4 days later. virgin proud!

this is also the first time I’ve gotten sick in 3 years. :frowning:

My gf had bad side effects from both the Moderna (og) and Pfizer (bi) booster. I had the same, with no side effects. Which is to say… it’s the vaccine, not the manufacturer.

Did you happen to fly Virgin Airlines?

my father had side effects from the moderna initial vaccine, but none with the pfizer booster. this isn’t universal.

the pfizer vaccine is a lower dose than moderna.

did not. i don’t think it was an option. we should have special status as covid virgins pretty soon.

That is true, the Pfizer boost is a lower dose. Who knows… My gf’s side effects might have been even worse with the Moderna booster. At this point, I don’t think you get a choice, you get what the pharmacy has. Or no booster at all, which at this point is a perfectly acceptable option.

I’ve had a choice, every time but for the initial vaccine. Every pharmacy lists what vaccine it gives. If you make an appointment at a pharmacy that uses Pfizer, you get Pfizer. If you make an appointment at a pharmacy that uses Moderna, you get Moderna. There are dozens of pharmacies and clinics near me that offer covid vaccines, and I can pick which one I make an appointment at.

I think the pharmacies where I live have both, but for at least walgreens, they default you into the one you got before. Not sure how hard it is to change that.

When I switched from Pfizer to Moderna, the pharmacist asked if I was sure I wanted to do that. He didn’t have anything else, though, so when I said “yes” he went ahead. It might be harder if they have both.

(Because my J&J was via a study, it’s not on my official record.)

The pharmacist for my first booster mentioned that most people where choosing the Moderna booster. I think Moderna kinda has the reputation as “the better one.”

yeah, it does.

I think it’s the stronger one. Pfizer may be safer for young men.

Clinically Moderna showed better results than Pfizer. But as others have noted it’s a higher dosage.

I got Moderna for the first 3 but it wasn’t available near me for the latest so I got Pfizer because that’s what they had.

I will say anecdotally we went to Florida this summer at the height of Omicron. Of the 7 of us that went 3 had M3 and 4 had P3. All 3 of us with Moderna^3 did not catch COVID, 3 of the 4 with Pfizer^3 caught COVID, though all 3 were mild cases.

Same, by far the longest stretch of my life without catching a cold. I’m typically get a cold once or twice a year.

COVID symptoms started early Monday AM for me. Starting to feel a little better today.

3 people I know lost their Covid virgin status in the last 10 days. One sister’s in-laws and another sister’s husband. My sis with the sick husband is sleeping in the guest room. I know she is vaccinated but not sure about boosted.
