What possibly mechanism is there for those endowments to fund public schools? If the ivys are killed, well have fewer foreign grad students, less domestic research, and… I guess maybe a few acres of land will free up for some enterprising businesses to build luxury apartments or something.

Mainstream reddit seems to believe that this meeting was a historical disaster for the US, like a total abandonment of our NATO allies and siding with Russia.
Then I went on the conservative sub and saw that the people there thought the meeting was a success and put Zelenskyy in his place.

Many people have written about the bad effects of the Ivy League. United States is a place of excesses, inequality, massive power imbalances, etc. Ivy League is the exemplification of this. These schools are interested in influence and power not research and education.
Trump wanted Zelensky to get on his knees and make Trump look like a merciful King. But that’s not how it went down, lol. World leaders need to stop sucking up to him.

Cambridge’s endowment is smaller than Princeton’s but no joke itself.
Also, the endowments come from gifts (mostly from alumni)… are you saying that alums should not be allowed to spend their money in this way? The alums could choose to fund K-12 schools instead but mostly don’t. Should the government take that choice away from people?
