So uh, do you guys think Putin will invade Ukraine or what

WSJ had better be careful with these editorials unless they want to be declared an enemy of the state

Yesterday was shocking initially, but really quite depressing today. Not just trumps behavior, but the entire crowd of MAGA that just accepted it and even cheered it on. What does any of that accomplish? Even if you accept a disagreement with Ukraine is reasonable, and Zelenskyy is a bad leader, why do that shit out in the open?

It’s like arguing with an ex over money right in front of your kids to appease a new girlfriend.

They did it on purpose. Some random republican dude started shouting at Zelensky in the oval office because he wasn’t wearing a suit. The purpose was to make Z look weak and silly.

I view the Ivy league like I view Mckinsey consulting. They are institutions that want to consolidate power and have great influence on economies, politics, law, etc. So at the very least they should stop getting government funding.

Yes. It definitely had the whiff of a setup.

The conservation turned ugly when Zelensky made a comment about the United States eventually “feeling it”, implying that the war would eventually affect the United States. Then Trump lost it completely. American foreign policy for a long time was based on the premise that European security meant American security. But that’s dead now.

The Economist described it as a trap by Vance

Him being MTG’s boyfriend made it even more of a farce imo.

Besides being MTG’s boyfriend, he’s also one of the hosts/personalities for Real America’s Voice. That network dresses up right wing conspiracy theories and propaganda as “news”. Those are the sorts of media outlets given special access now to the White House as they gladly amplify any falsehoods for Trump.

Trump winked at him after he asked the question. It’s all so gross.

A bit too broad in the use of the word “socialism”. The word generally applies to societies where the government owns and operates a service, or good. I think it’s misleading to call SS socialism.
If all you need is govt funding for a thing to be “socialism”, then I guess defense, police, fire protection, and road maintenance are all examples of socialism. That leaves the word being more or less meaningless.
Lots of things are publicly financed, from prisons to hydro-electric projects.

Zelenskyy has no intention of bowing down to that Middletonian corporal.

I am in the camp of believing Trump and Vance agreed between themselves to humiliate Zelenskyy publicly after he privately refused to sign the one-sided minerals deal. Trump and Vance did it clumsily as they don’t have the skills to do it any other way.

Trump may have also wanted to send a signal to other countries’ leaders (except Putin) that they could be treated similarly if they weren’t compliant.

I don’t think there was anything Zelenskyy could have said to avoid these attacks on him.

Yes, the fire and police departments are socialism. The government owning the means of production is not socialism, that’s communism.

Its nice to see the UK rising to the occasion.

UK (in general) is very pro-help Ukraine.

And this is really going to piss off Putin.

Now that the old global order is collapsing, everything should be on the table.

No Western country leader can successfully stand up to Trump alone: a united front against him is needed.

Agreed.

It will take the EU, UK, Canada, Mexico and others working together to stop the US..

The one good thing about today was that it made it obvious to everybody that Trump is not our ally in any way, shape, or form.

I have been sensing some reticence on the part of many people in EU/UK when it comes to responding to the US/Trump’s economic attacks because of familiarity. They focus on the people that didn’t vote for Trump, but the reality is Trump is the American Govt now. Sentiment about the nicer past is not something we can afford anymore with the US, primarily because Trump and his backers are not going to magically dissapear in only four years.

They fully intend to carry out their threats. Thats the crux of the issue.
