Trump’s playbook in Afghanistan has parallels to his Ukraine negotiations with Russia.
US defense spending is absurd. It’s not like you don’t have a choice to reduce it. You could reduce it and increase taxes on the wealthy who have profited the most from American military dominance.
Fundamentally this system is driven by “inequality” that is not consistent with values in Canada and Europe. I mean just loo at Princeton’s endowment. This is absurd stuff. I look forward to a time when Ivy league schools disappear and money is re-invested into public schools.
The day Donald Trump stood cowering before Vladimir Putin at Helsinki was one of the more disgraceful shows of American weakness in American history.
Today’s attack by Trump and Vance on Zelenskyy in the Oval Office might top it, because you know Trump is about 2 steps away from “I’m sending American troops in to overthrow Zelenskyy and take all the rare earth materials” and let Putin plow everything else in Ukraine six feet under.

Trump and Vance were shameful. Trump has gotten used to having everyone bow and scrape in his presence. He doesn’t handle well people who stand up to him.

Just watched a clip of the exchange in the oval office. I feel really bad for ukranians right now. Trump is trying to extort them, and will then feed them to the wolves anyway. Europe needs to step up big time and take charge of the situation or Trump and Putin will carve up eastern Europe piece by piece imo.

Zelenskyy is such a brave man but Trump will no longer deal with him. He will be replaced one way or the other.
Starmer should speak out in support for Ukraine but he is fearful of Trump.

was a full on mob boss visit. “they need us more than we need them” was the main message. so play ball and pay the vig or get whacked. and be openly grateful the entire time.
so all our allies we’ve ever supported (worse for the ones currently receiving support) should carefully review that bc the terms can be changed quickly. the US requires an overtly material and favorable transaction to remain your ally. it’s an openly mercenary “ally”
