It’s like that Johnny Cash song:

I’m getting whiplash from the actions of a very senior “foreign policy expert”. It was only a short 9 months ago that Whiplash-Biden waived the sanctions against the company and Russian oligarch behind the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, despite bipartisan objections from both democrats (i.e. Bob Menendez - US Senate Foreign Relations Chair) and many (most??, all???) Republicans. And now in response to Russian actions in the Ukraine, Whiplash-Biden is putting the sanctions back in place.
I thought Biden was supposed to be a foreign policy expert. That’s probably the main reason he was picked as Obama’s VP so many years ago. He’s being played by Putin like a weak parent is played by a 2-year old. This is going to get worse - much, much, worse.
As Han Solo used to say: I have a bad feeling about this.
Nice Hannity summary.
Oh crap.
Imma gonna call it first . . .
Russia will have their military presence in place for a couple of months, using force only if the Ukrainian forces initiate first strike.
Once things settle down, he’ll withdraw . . . making Trump look good and Biden really, really bad.
I don’t really care which President looks good or bad. I just hope that you are right and that this doesn’t turn into a bloodbath. MSNBC coverage is not encouraging.
Nor is The Economist. ![]()
I feel the same way as I did in 1968 when the Soviet tanks rolled into Czechoslovakia. I expect when I get up tomorrow morning that Russia will be in control of the Ukraine. Hopefully there will be little resistance and light casualties as in the 1968 invasion.
While I certainly don’t hope for casualties, I’m not sure that Ukraine rolling over and capitulating to unreasonable Russian demands is the ideal solution for lasting peace. It didn’t really work with Hitler and I’m not sure it will with Putin either.
Ukraine will lose badly if it resists Russia so the outcome will be the same whether it fights or acquiesces. Why sacrifice thousands of lives if there is nothing to be gained in such an unfair fight?
If they go it alone, sure. If they have allies who are willing to help them, not necessarily.
In which case the Ukrainian people will suffer the most. Justifying coming into the conflict in a military fashion is convoluted. It is the Ukrainians that will pay for that. Always easy to defend your principles with someone else’s blood. I cannot think that course of action deserves the moral high ground.
Oops, we tripped….
Liberty?
Surely it’s the Ukrainian people defending their principles with their blood.
I think this is the big takeaway. Any country near Russia now sees how imperative it is to have nuclear defense capabilities.
It seems the Russians have gone in, looking for Ukranian weapons of mass destruction.
I was wrong yesterday, Putin will only be happy once pliant Ukrainian leadership is put in place.
I see a long simmering conflict similar to Chechnya.
This also won’t be the last time Russia just walks into another country, especially if Ukraine does just role over for them.
My concern is it won’t just be countries near Russia.
China is going to follow suit now that it’s been shown how trivial the consequences of invading are.
If I was Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, or the Philippines I’d be looking to get nukes sooner rather than later.
