So uh, do you guys think Putin will invade Ukraine or what

Seems like aid is popular for both republicans and democrats

Maybe somewhat less so for Repubs - but aid ceasing seems to be a stretch.

Aid is popular on both sides of the aisle, and thus objectively should pass. Aid to Ukraine was also held up by Johnson for a couple of months purely because Trump asked him to, and when it finally did get voted on, MTG and others contemplated initiating a motion to vacate as punishment. If Trump is elected, the aid ceasing is very plausible.

I’ve said it before, but it seriously vexes me: It makes no sense. It makes no sense that MAGA types are not only anti-Ukraine, but also acting like they’re pro-Russia. Self-determination for me, but not for thee? I’m not even a Democrat, but it doesn’t make sense to me. Make. it. make. sense.

Some appear to receive campaign contributions laundered from Russia, and multiple people have been convicted for doing so. But I think a lot of it is trying to be close to Trump.

Because Putin wants Trump to be POTUS and tries to help Trump become, therefore Trump and MAGAers like Russia.

An asshole who helps you out is still a guy who helps you out and Trump, demonstrably, needs all the help he can get.

Well, its now confirmed that Russia is using North Korean ballistic missiles.

This should really ratchet up the sanctions on Russia now.

I’ve given these reasons previously on why MAGA types love Russia:

  1. Country is anti LGBTQ
  2. Country financially supports the Orthodox church which in turn blesses the war
  3. MAGA types adore an authoritarian strong man

You could also include their belief that Ukraine has financial links to the Biden family.

MAGA types are religious nationalists. Trump delivers a view of the US that aligns politics with evangelicalism. He tickles the same things that motivate them to “follow” religion.

Doesn’t matter that he sleeps with porn stars and trashes the constitution, as long as he is consistent with the mission of creating a religious state.

  1. Russia has a notable amount of alt-right/literal Nazi support by the citizenry that is often encouraged by the government
  2. Putin is generally perceived as pro-Trump
  3. Russia is attacking Ukraine, a country that failed at Trump’s request to destroy Joe Biden’s reputation, and a country central to Trump being impeached. Thus, anti-Ukraine GOP members.

Isn’t there also a conspiracy theory about a bioweapons lab run by the CIA in Ukraine?

And they can’t stand to have fellow members living in another country?

Russia confirmed to have used chloropicrin gas, which is against the Chemical Weapons Convention which Russia signed.

Chloropicrin gas was first used in World War I. It isn’t deadly on its own, but is mixed with other deadly chemicals. Chloropicrin gas could penetrate WWI gas masks and will still penetrate many modern gas masks, especially if they’re not designed to that standard or are older or not fitted 100% correctly.

When the gas penetrates your mask, you will literally drown in your own vomit unless you remove the mask and breathe in more deadly toxins.

The MAGA Christian nationalists perplex me because many of their words/actions are anti-Christian and anti-American.

There is a distinct difference between a Christian and a Christian Nationalist.

Christians run the spectrum, but tend toward being decent people. Like any group, there are great ones and shitheels.

Christian Nationalists aren’t interested in religion except as a cudgel. They want to use theocracy to enforce a conservatives-only utopia, and they don’t give a shit how many lesser people they need to hurt for it, and they certainly haven’t thought about what Jesus would do unless it’s their head-canon where he’s toting an AR-15 to shoot the immigrants.

Why do you hate God and America?

I think that should be America and God.

Gazprom is basically crippled now when it comes to sales of gas. Less money for the Russian war machine.

That has to be good news for China.

Good luck BlackRock and Pimco! From the WSJ:

“$20 billion

Ukraine’s outstanding Eurobonds. Ukraine’s lenders said Kyiv could wait to pay them back after Russian troops stormed into the country two years ago. Now, their patience is starting to run out. A group of foreign bondholders including BlackRock and Pimco plans to press Ukraine to start paying interest on its debt again as soon as next year, according to people familiar with the matter.”

Sure. More cheap gas possible headed their way (China has a lot of economic problems now)

But on the battlefield, it would seem we are headed for an all out war. If we want to help Ukraine, that means we will be targeted as well.
