Most folks here may not have heard of the Blood, Sweat and Tears band so going to give them a plug.
Their 1968 debut album sold over 10 million copies and was a great blend of blues and rock. Every song on the album (which I have played countless times) is special. The fabulous lead singer, David Clayton-Thomas, toiled in obscurity (playing in bars on Yonge Street in Toronto) before the 1968 breakout album.
I don’t usually promote albums but this one was extra special to me in my university years. I should probably have put relistening to it in the Happy Thoughts thread. One of the cuts on the album is actually entitled “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy”.
Could be the dementia got too severe. I’ve had a few people in my life who disappeared socially long before they died due to progressing dementia and other complications of aging.
I stayed really anonymous on the AO, but now I’m older and care less. A few folks here know who I am irl. And I’ve posted things that if anyone really wanted to sleuth I think you could figure it out.
If you did, you’d be able to sell me life insurance for peanuts up to the year I’d die, and for nothing less than face value after that (adjusted for interest, expenses lapses etc etc). Can you do that?
(But for inspiration, try Here One Moment!)
Personally, I can make educated guesses based on my grandparents and hope that I don’t take after the one with the worst end of life… although they did/are living the longest… but still.
I think with AI, DTNF (and others on this forum) will be able to train a bot to post in their style - if they haven’t already.
This could continue on for some years until there is only one real poster left and all the others are bots. Will they realize that they are the last one and if so, will they care? Hundreds of years from now we’ll all still be posting and a random real person might happen upon our forum.
I think a lot of people know who i am. If i die before the rest of you, there’s a decent chance you’ll hear. But like tommie, probably not from my kids.
My husband just dropped off our 9yo for his first sleep away camp. He was very brave at the goodbye, which made it more emotional for Mr. NA, I think. I really hope he has a blast and wants to go back. There are around 50 kids at this camp and 100 staff and volunteers.
A friend lost his mom in March and his dad last month. They were both in their 90s and in not so great health. They were cremated and burial happening today.
Just found out that a guy who was working in my department while I was in grad school got killed in a triple homicide back in January. Apparently he’d been retired for a couple of years and got killed in his driveway after getting home from the grocery store by a neighbour who was having a psychotic event.
I wasn’t particularly good friends with him. He’d suggested being on my thesis committee. We were at some of the same social events. I was a bit skeeved out by him when he was dating his (?) student. Still sad to hear about how his life got cut short.
My youngest daughter and her family (husband and 2 kids 5 and 2) are probably going to have to move as their landlord, from whom they were renting a basement apartment, was shot and killed by the SWAT team serving a search warrant on him for investigation of rape, kidnapping and sexual assault. Her husband was at work and she had just returned from shopping with her kids when an unmarked police car drove up and told her she needed to put the kids back in the car and go up to a local school parking lot. When she arrived at the parking lot, the SWAT vehicle and a number of other police vehicles were there and immediately took off. Her friend and neighbor called her a few minutes later to see if she was alright saying there were a bunch of cop cars all around the house she lived in.
They had to stay and my wife’s sisters house which happens to be in the general neighborhood for a couple nights and then were able stay back in their apartment. They have been in touch with the guys ex-wife who was still co-owner of the house since they had been trying to sell it since they divorced. She told them they can stay until they are able to do something with the house.
