Running thread

It’s an off and on drizzly day, so you don’t have to twist my arm to take today off. I just looked at the course, which seems the same as last year, unfortunately. I think I’ll plan on walking all the uphills.

I saw there’s a Running from Gluten for the celiac chapter at the local children’s hospital in May. My celiac kid (who ran XC and track all through high school) isn’t interested, but I might sign up, if only for access to all the vendors.

You inspired me. I’ve been doing run/walk combos of 5K or a little longer regularly, 3 or 4 times a week, but have been hoping to get back to 5K continuous running. In the run/walk, most frequently running segments are about 45 seconds, walking about 25. Today I ran the first 1.92 miles in 21:20 (11:06 pace). Still continued run/walk for another 2 miles, at avg 13:14 pace.

Running for 1 mile or a little more at the start is not rare (just Monday night even) but first time since Dec 15 that I ran over 1.6 at the start (Dec 15 2 miles at 12:01 avg pace)

I had a terribly slow pace, but I didn’t die.

I put my normal treadmill pace into Google and Ai came back with:

>This pace is often used by individuals aiming to increase their calorie burn through fast walking

Lol, I’m not fast walking. I’m going as fast as I can. Though no word of a lie, I have run 10k’s before and been passed by speed walkers.
I’m not particularly swift. I am however, non-stop. Been dead last by a lot more than once, but I finish what i started.

I managed to get a run in on vacation last week. I was hoping to get a couple of runs in but ended up getting sick on vacation so I had to settle for a single run.

I just printed out a 12 week half marathon training session. I guess we will see, it’s gonna be a killer. It’s a maybe whether I can or will stick to it.

12 weeks gets me to the huge ottawa run in the spring. I’ve done that three times and it’s always fun. 50,000 people running plus people cheering on the sidelines.

Treadmills are mental torture for me. Mr. NA can zone out and run for miles, but I just can’t.

Giving blood at Monday really set me back. Gave up on a run that was two blocks of 10 minutes of running with 3 minutes walking in between. Made it through the first chunk but was really hurting about 3 minutes into the second.

Redid the workout Saturday (outside) and was able to finish, but it was sucky. Mr. NA came with me which helped me not give up. But my average time was 11 min/mi rather than 10.

Today I ran 2.25 miles in 24.5 minutes. Glad I could push through and finish, but I’m still feeling the impact of the blood donation. It’s well worth it, but oof. I’ll keep trucking. Endurance is the goal, not speed, but it’s still hard to see a setback.

Always this.
I call what I do ‘running with the whales’. Me and all the rest of the fat people at the back of the pack. Push pull or drag me across the finish line. I’m not anywhere near the front of the pack, but I’m still beating all the losers sitting on the couch :).

tl;dr I don’t pay much attention to speed other than as a function of setting my hear rate.

Well, my son has Covid and I am feeling chills. I’m sure this won’t help my progress!
