Running thread

Started back at the track again. Third week this morning. 12x400 with 200 jogging recovery. Not as fast as I have been, but very consistent and held the pace the whole time despite starting a bit faster than planned.

There is a local 5k on July 4th, thinking I wall sign up, give me some motivation to keep at it.

That was my plan too. Unfortunately, doctor has ruled it out, at least for running the 5K. Getting a pacemaker implanted June 25. Cleared to run before June 24, as long as I continue to feel OK, and he expects running to be fine a month later, but no running for the first month because he’s concerned about arm motion interfering with incision healing. Walking 5K would be fine, and I expect I’ll do that virtually every day, but see no reason be pay a race fee to walk it.

Good luck with your procedure!

Yeah, I already feel a bit funny paying a race fee when I could just go run three miles, don’t think I would pay one to walk it.

Third long (> 70 minutes) run this month, this time 90 minutes on another flat gravel/dirt trail. Feel really good afterwards. I hope my nipples are starting to get hardened more than before, as I didn’t feel I was getting rubbed raw until about the last 15 minutes, which would be longer than previous runs.

Plus body weight down to 235 today. This is 10 pounds higher than 2 summers ago, and 15 pounds lower than 3 months ago when I looked at the scale, saw 250, and shocked myself. I knew I was getting lax with diet, but didn’t know it was that bad. I guess it was, and now I’m on the way back down. Long runs, exercise 5 days a week, and 1.5-day-a-week fasting (want it to be 2, realistically I don’t complete 1 of those 4) is targeting to get me under 220 by the end of the year.

Pacemaker installed this morning. Still in recovery. No running for 4 weeks. No treadmill walking until Saturday

Certainly not before I get home. Haven’t been told restrictions on that

Went for my first jog in a few months yesterday. Not sure what is keeping me sitting at home, besides work.
The soccer matches on the TV don’t help.

On vacation in Alaska. I got up before everyone else today so I went for a run. First time in a while since I’m nursing a cracked rib. About 3 miles, felt ok.

This afternoon we were down in Homer and heard about an annual race they’ve been doing for about 40 years. So I guess I’m running a 10k tomorrow. Half had some hills, but the 10k is all downhill, so that’s good I guess.

you can do it!

2 hours today.

First hour felt really good - not too fast, managing my breathing and pace to stay steady.

Second hour - not so good. I suspect I need more 45-60 minute runs during the week, rather than just 30 minutes, to extend my ā€œI can do this without real effortā€ baseline.

Ran three ~10 minute miles in the middle of a 4.5 walk/run. I confirmed I still hate running in the summer. Or doing much of anything outside in the summer.

I need to move North.

You were right!
Coasted in at 59 mins. Not too bad for not running much in the last few years.

It’s hot AF up here too this week

I’ve had to move my runs from 1pm while the kids nap to 6am before he kids wake up

The fall can’t come soon enough

I find running early when the temps are at or near the dewpoint to not actually be all that much of an improvement as the sweat just won’t evaporate.

Dewpoints in the low 70s can just generally go F off. At least they are coming down from earlier in the week.

You can really get the medal for $35. Doesn’t appear to be any actual virtual race involved

i’ve been running like 5 times a week for 2 months. i more or less just run 3-4 miles. some pickups for turnover. I might have some mechanical stuff to address.

AI is not perfect

Broomall is my home town, in PA. Those results are for a race in Illinois

I have not been able to find online results. Per doctor’s orders (after pacemaker surgery), I did not do it. Could have walked 5K, and did walk more than 5K today (not in one stretch), but no running until late July.
