Without checking. Isn’t it because they need a designation for when they have to bury/honor soldiers?

With the Project 25 DOD, I assume that being commanded to convert is on the table.
Very much this. Having this info on the dog-tag provides insight on “final rites” to be administered to the individual.
It also helps assess what training might be needed for Chaplains assigned to support various units. While all chaplains are trained to what final rites various religions provide; a particular chaplain going out to support a unit with several (fill-in a particular religion here) in it; they can review/brush up on rites for those individuals.
Take your pick from this selection.

This makes no sense. They could simply buy the seafood on the open market. Also, the US exports a lot of seafood.
