I don’t get it - Greenland, Canada, Gulf of Mexico – are stupid issues, I can’t see them distracting from his picks, especially when it comes time to vote. I don’t believe most people care other to laugh at trump or fear how the world sees us
I don’t know what to believe. The problem I have is the “distraction” can damage relationships with allies now that Germany and France are weighing in. These next 4 years can be the most difficult years for USA on.the international stage.
How many articles have you read in the past week about how abjectly unqualified Pete Hegseth is? Even if you ignore the alcoholism (the last time the Senate voted No on a cabinet nominee was GHW Bush’s defense pick, who was rejected for being an alcoholic), sex abuse scandals, white supremacist preacher / tattoos, etc., he would be the least qualified Defense Secretary of my lifetime. Or how even Bill Barr thought that Patel had no business being appointed to a lower position at the FBI, let alone director.
It doesn’t matter if the issues are stupid. Trump gives legacy media a shiny object and they follow it.
FWIW, Greenland isn’t quite as “stupid” as it would initially appear . . .
Greenland is much, much closer to western Russia than any US controlled possession. It would afford the US additional capacity to monitor Russian military activities . . . not to mention that it would cut the time for a missile to hit Moscow by around 40 to 50%.
Not saying that this is “good policy” . . . but there are national security benefits of having control of Greenland.
ITA . . . and would also say that Iceland would be a far better place for this sort of thing than Greenland. More land mass and more “green” land are found in Iceland.
But I’m sure Trump doesn’t understand Mercator projections and believes that Greenland is huge (HUGE!) and provide more land for US operations. Plus it’s green (GREEN!!).
I think the average Canadian would support more military spending on Arctic security. Canada will need to ramp up its military spending going forward and the Arctic would be a good place to target funds.
There will be no Canadian pushback if the US wants us to deploy more resources in the North. This could be an easy “win” for Trump. He would probably say he created Arctic security notwithstanding that NORAD and its predecessors have been in place for over 60 years.
Remember, January 6th was a peaceful tourist walk that was also a false flag by the radical left and the FBI who incited violence that didn’t happen on the day of love.
Trump has always tried to come across as the no war guy. Now he needs to be appeased by showing military strength.
The most interesting question I get from big clients these days is who do you think is next. There are some who think this is a dance around till he points at Iran.
