Republicans Say the Darndest Things!

Sample size n=2 of Marines I know closely.

FIL, as described above.

Millennial a little younger than me: Huge video game nerd, big into D&D and Pathfinder, which he discovered playing with his Marine buddies at base. (Though he gained a vocabulary I sometimes need to call him on - words like retarded, f****t. He’s been improving though. Would cut him out of my life if I didn’t see the effort to change.)

As said, FIL loves Trump. Younger Marine hates him.

However Trump is also the (supposed) non-politician who says the things “everyone” thinks, and then says that he’s going to act on them. Build the wall! Shoot the shoplifters! Be the big, mean tough guy that foreign leaders are afraid to cross!

That Trump fails to deliver on such bravado, or that he’s an idiot, etc. gets overlooked by virtue of there being an apparent leader that validates their views.

This is where I am coming from. If I was a Marine I would hate Trump regardless of his other views. If my US Marine cousin who fought in Vietnam was still alive this would be a question I would put to him.

I could not believe how Trump largely got a free pass from the military community over his earlier comments about McCain. That blew my mind.

I wonder just how many of the military “Trump supporters” are that way because they dislike who the Democrats put forward and their general policies (especially as it relates to border control) even more and the Republicans can’t seem to put forward someone better. (Greater weight on the former reason than the latter.)

That’s the idea, but in practice his border (and other) policies aren’t that different from Democrats, and are even less different from other Republicans.

It seems to me that some Trumpians honestly like his extreme stated policies on more traditional topics like border control, such as shooting crossing refugees (his ineffectiveness at addressing the border notwithstanding), but all Trumpians like the otherism and hatred.

Honestly, I wish we still had all those words for Trump and his supporters. I get why they are wrong, and I don’t use them, but “asshole” and “deplorables” don’t cut it.

Deplorable hits right for me, but so does pitiful. I can still pity somebody who wants policies that harm me.

Agree and disagree. Certainly many people vote Trump because they hate the Democrats even more. However, the Republicans have put forward plenty of candidates better than Trump in both 2016 and the current race. There’s no question many of them are more true conservatives than Trump.

Deplorable makes sense to me, but doesn’t mean anything to a deplorable. If anything it probably sounded elitist.

Better if we had the same lexicon as the people we are talking to.

I think this is a good description of those in the military and law enforcement that continue to support Trump.

Well, don’t limit yourself…

Trump doesn’t want to participate in RNC debates, so he’s calling on the RNC to cancel them all and support him:

Is everyone ready for the zombie apocalypse? It starts at 2:22p

Believe I mentioned it in this thread earlier. Make sure before then you:

  • Turn off your phone
  • Wrap your phone in tinfoil
  • Turn off the power to your house
  • Avoid all artificial light which the Deep State has weaponized (just for 2:22, then you’re good)
  • Pray

If you do this you can avoid receiving the Marsburg virus via electronic transmission. After this, all vaccinated people will have their microchips activated and become zombies controlled by the Deep State.

If my phone is too old to do the whole 5G thing, will I be all right?
