I don’t like the term “everyone deserves to be happy”. No, it doesn’t justify cheating on your spouse.

I’m doing a Darkness to Light training on how to prevent child sexual abuse. It’s bleak. So many ways to take advantage of or abuse children.

My step mother is a volunteer court appointed special advocate (CASA) and yes, it sounds very dark / awful. But at the same time, thank goodness that we have people who are looking out for the best interests of these kids.

My kitten fell in the tub with me this morning. She handled it well (I do not appear to be bleeding). Poor little drowned rat she was.

On the irs.gov website sometimes the “A” in “IRA” stands for “Account” but, usually, it stands for “Arrangement.”

We need to change the rules of grammar in the United States of America. The period in the previous post should really go outside the quotation marks.

Agreed, and that’s one of the grammatical mistakes I make purposefully. Or if it needs to be correct I’ll rearrange the sentence to have a non-quote word at the end

It’s not really grammar. It’s style.

Speaking of actual grammar, I’ve been using singular “they” for many years… I get annoyed when editors “catch” it (found an old article I wrote where the frickin editor must’ve been an old fart - changed all my singular "they"s to "he"s.)

I did a little victory lap when various groups finally admitted that yes, singular “they” was in regular use.

I wonder if those who were pro-singular “you” had a similar feeling of victory.

I decided there’s way too many commas, but I do like the Oxford comma.

Guessing it was the pro-plural-you crowd that would have face resistance if there was any controversy in having the same word for both singular and plural second person pronouns.

I’m very anti-singular-they, but also a little anti-plural-you. I tend to say y’all or you all or rephrase to avoid using a plural second person pronoun in the first place.

For most of English’s history, up until the current version we have now, there were separate 2nd person singular & plural pronouns in the written versions.

There have always been 2nd person plural-only pronouns in how people actually speak English.

My brother has a bear in his backyard. He lives on the outskirts of Hamilton, a city close to toronto. Bears aren’t natural there, it’s heavily populated for a hundred miles. The bear must’ve come down the railway line or something for a long long ways.

Was the bear selling insurance?

Hmm…I wouldn’t say that this one is my favorite, but I like it enough…maybe just for the nostalgia factor. :man_shrugging:

The Hanna Barbera cartoons weren’t very good.

What’s amusing to me is we bought one of those cheapass DVDs with public domain cartoons on them when our kids were little… and those were better than the HB cartoons I had watched growing up (The Flintstones was okay, but seriously… lots of crap.)

So here’s a cartoon:
