In third place before the final question at trivia tonight. Final q was a series of questions about vexillology. Smoked it, and the rest of the competition. That’s right, we let our flag freak fly.

We left our house around 2:40, and at 3:30 our neighbors texted us letting us know our other next door neighbor’s garage had caught on fire. It’s far enough on the periphery of our camera angles that we didn’t catch it, and fortunately someone was around to call the fire department. Unfortunately, their garage was his painting and woodworking and stained glass studio, so we don’t know how much damage was done on that. Scary stuff.

Wow…my first thought was they fried the turkey in the garage.

They did not, it was an electrical outlet issue. Fortunately, all his artwork was out of the garage…but the brand new car was destroyed.

Okay, so here’s the scoop.

The fire was started from the outlet. While it hasn’t been proven yet, it’s suspected that the brand new PHEV was the culprit, as it was charging at the time. And because they had just finished grilling their turkey, the charcoal and lighter fluid were placed right next to the car, making a bad situation worse.

But wait, there’s more! As they were about to stick the turkey into the oven (guess it wasn’t quite done and needed a little more time and the grill was off), the neighbor’s dad glanced outside and noticed the fire. So the neighbor ran outside to put it out, but just turned off the outside water and put away the hoses last week. So he grabbed some buckets from inside and was trying to slosh at it. But when he opened the garage door, the rush of air caused the whole thing to go up in flames.

And they had just given their old car to his sister a couple weeks ago, who lives in Wisconsin. So not easily retrievable. So, they are paying $35 a day for a rental car in the meantime.

He was telling my husband this story while laughing about his bad luck, so he seems to be taking it in stride. It could have been much worse - the garage is detached, and they’re pretty comfortable financially, and well insured. So while a scary inconvenience, not devastating for them.

Well they must not have sprung for rental car coverage. :grimacing:

Glad everyone is ok though.

Baths are relaxing if you don’t have a screaming baby you’re trying to soothe in there with you.

Her: Don’t vasodilate too much in there.

Me: Okay?

I feel that you have left out some important recent details.

I didn’t say it was recent. Just reminiscing those baby days of trying to quiet the screaming like being dismembered.

Yes but you also have a habit of not sharing the private details of your life with internet strangers, so we have no choice but to speculate.

Was it?

Hawaiian rolls are good.

My brother brought a friend with him to our sibling sidesgiving dinner. She is Indian. She brought some sweet potato patties with Hawaiian bread and two different types of chutney. It was good, and very different. Lots of leftover Hawaiian rolls left at my house, too.

I wasn’t trying to pry! Sometimes when you have had things to share, you’ve done the coy dropping of hints thing. I thought maybe this was that. But it isn’t my business anyway, certainly. I do care about you as a person though and hope for good things in your life!

Is that what you young people are calling it these days??

I rarely catch my kids’ colds anymore. My son came down with one last week, a pretty nasty one, too. My husband and I never caught it. We used to get their colds ALWAYS. Maybe I’ve just caught them all at this point.
