I just earned the Regular and Read Guidelines badges. No clue as to why they appeared.

We did some heavy updating last night roughly around the time you posted this. My guess, itās got something to do with that. Because really, nobodyās unliking your posts :).
The forum takes up a whole server (and associated rack space). The server is fine, I have extra, but weāre packed out on rack spaceā¦and Iām thinking itād be nice to have that extra slot for some stuff weāre starting work on. I donāt āneedā an extra slot, but itād make things easier.
So Iāve been thinking about just moving the forum to something like AWS. Except not sure if thatās now a good idea. Normally the forum doesnāt even touch the server capacity, the server basically sits at idle. But after this last update Iām seeing some bursts of, well not heavy load, but enough of a load to register.
Anyway, not doing anything right now.

I wondered about this due to small changes Iām seeing on my phone.
Yep, not a fan. Some small layout changes that require me to learn new things. And they added a link to discourse at the bottom of every page. So thatās handy for hackers, they can just bulk search for āpowered by discourseā in google, get a list of a billion websites including us, and open up some bot.
In terms of the forum, traffic is extremely stable, surprisingly so.
350k page views a month going back forever. About 70-90 active posters each day. Consistent activity by all the metrics. Couple new signups every once in a while, but about the same leave.

Location, location, location.
350k page views / 80 posters / 30 days = 145 pages viewed / person / day. something doesnāt seem right about 145 āpagesā. I normally check likeā¦ 8 threads. So does it count a new āpageā when it gets a new URL?
active posters=people posting. The rest are lurkers. Lurkers are 1/3-1/2 the traffic, depending on the day. That metric is pretty good, a 60-40 split posters/lurkers has to be pretty high for a forum. IN our case I think it just means the site is basically a closed community.
I donāt live in NY but I donāt think Iāve ever had an intellectual debate over dinner. At most Iāve had a business discussion.
First time this year I had to turn the A/C on.

I wonder how many people have 401k in their 401k.
I donāt know, but I do remember in 2008 when the market crashed and people talked about their 201k because their 401k was half as big.

Most random thing ever.
Iām taking 10 students fishing tomorrow morning, to a small lake nearby.
Related, Iāve mentioned my buddy before, whoās a tech giant. Runs a startup and has bought 20 companies in the last year.
So I googled the name of the lake to get directions. First result, the lake.
Second result, a press announcement where my buddy bought a software company in April, the software company is named after the lake and is located on the lake.
Thatās pretty random.
the software company ā¦ is located in the lake.
:-?
Run by the fishes?
Ima go with Lake IfThenElse.
Might be time to turn off sig lines again.
