Rye chips are the best part of a pub mix. We stopped at a gas station for snacks, and I was debating between the standard gardettos, and the rye chips only bag. My husband thinks the idea is appalling.

Whatever, he clearly has bad taste in general.

My husband hates to share food. What he ordered is what he wants and he’s not interested in trying a bite of mine or sharing two delicious entrees. I often will get him to give me a small bite or two, but he really dislikes it.

I’ve talked about it before on here, I remember BG had some strong feelings about it.

Tried to talk him into getting one of each of the breakfasts here at our b&b. One was a stuffed French toast (always his preference), one was an omelet (mine), but we both enjoy either one. Nope, never going to happen with him (but I still try).

My wife hates when I suggest something multiple times when I know she doesn’t want to go there. You might cut your husband some slack and stop suggesting something you know he dislikes.

I’m like the 1/4 pounder with cheese—not available after midnight.

That’s all well and good, but he also dislikes when I order two meals because I can’t choose (and we have obscene leftovers as a result). I can’t win with him when it comes to ordering food!

We always share food - and specifically often go out to eat and get 1 entree and 1 appetizer. Or, sometimes, 4 appetizers and nothing else (which often confuses the waitstaff more than you’d think.) Bizarre to not share with your spouse! To each their own.

:yikes:

I have a bad habit of telling people about my bad habit.

So I didn’t grow up poor, but my parents definitely were not nearly as well off as either of their parents. (Both grandfathers were engineers, father was a university professor)

So it was really engrained in me that you don’t order more than you’re going to eat at a restaurant. My parents would usually just order two meals for the three of us as that would be enough. And of course no appetizer. MAYBE dessert (I did have an inalienable right to dessert if I did a good job eating my dinner) but never EVER an appetizer… unless it was in place of a meal.

I remember being married to my first husband and out to eat and he ordered an appetizer AND an entree and I pointed out that would be too much food and he was like ā€œyeah, I know, but I want to try both thingsā€.

OMG… you can DO that?!?!?!

Yes, my husband grew up in squalor and poverty and while he hasn’t perpetuated the cycle onto our kids, he definitely has a clean plate mentality and does not like to waste food, especially restaurant food.

He’s not controlling so of course I DO over-order all the time, but it drives him crazy because I do not enjoy leftovers. Fortunately, he does! But I know he’s thinking about how much was spent on that reheated meal and how wasteful it all is…

Heh… the one that I still have trouble wrapping my head around is bringing restaurant food home for someone.

If I ever went out to eat without STBX, he expected me to bring something home for him. This was just SO far off my radar that it caused a lot of friction because I almost never did… it just didn’t remotely occur to me to do this.

The point of restaurant food is to eat it with your friends/family in the restaurant. Even if you splurge and order more than you’re going to eat (which was hard enough for me to wrap my head around) the leftovers are inferior. You eat them because you don’t waste food and they’re probably tolerable, but they’re vastly inferior in most cases. (Lasagna is an exception, but a leftover omelette? :slightly_frowning_face:)

So to order something you’re not even going to start in the restaurant… why would you ever do that?

He would bring me back gross leftovers if he went out with the guys and I’m like why are you wasting our money bringing me a soggy cold burger and fries or enchiladas that were probably great an hour & a half ago but are barely tolerable now? With less effort than it will take to reheat this stuff you brought, I could make something at one tenth the cost which will be ten times better because it’s fresh.

But if I didn’t bring him back something when I was out then he would get incredibly upset because obviously this meant that I was inconsiderate and didn’t care about him. Caused a lot of fights. I would have to put reminders on my phone to order something for him to bring home because it was such an incredibly foreign idea to me.

Like, even if I mentioned a work lunch he’d be upset that I didn’t bring food home for him. Even if it was a company paid thing, such as taking a job candidate out to lunch. He wanted me to order something for him, pay for it separately, bring it back to work with me, and then 4 hours later bring it home to him.

Why??? What is the point? If the restaurant is any good let’s just go there for dinner instead!

i was talking to some people about my travels and made a comment about coming out of the airport and hopping into Abdul’s cab.

It hit me how racist it sounded, so I explained i do have a regular driver and his name is Abdul.

Are you a naughty girl with a bad habit, a bad habit for drugs?

Yeah I’m going to debate this part of the argument. My family already has a dining table, glasses, drinks, silverware, plates, napkins, etc. All I need is the FOOD. I don’t need some restauarant employee going back and forth a dozen times from the kitchen to the table. Package the stuff up and I’ll be over to collect it. And I certainly don’t need to show up on a Friday or Saturday night like everyone else and wait for a long time to do so.

I just don’t value the restaurant experience in general, and to be fair rarely spend more than $25 on an entree and always $0 on alcohol (don’t value that either). There are of course exceptions; I do eat out many times over the course of a year.

That kind of behavior is a bit of a red flag.

People have all sorts of strange idiosyncracies, but that one is definitely a negative.
