Despite many years of financial literacy, I still don’t understand why daily 1% fluctuations in the total stock market are considered news.
I got some really good advice many years back that went something like this — all of those financial shows on tv, (cnnfn, who’s that loud talking guy-Cramer or something, etc.) they’re not financial advice or news. They’re “entertainment”.
I also get a kick out of the breathless reporting when the stock markets move a large number of points but relatively speaking, as a percent, it’s nothing to write home about (even though it’s enough to exasperatingly pontificate about with ever increasing volume).
Yes but to eat the food while it is still hot and fresh, on dishes you don’t have to wash… why eat it cold at home unless there is a pandemic?
Bottom line: bringing cold non-fresh restaurant food home is decidedly NOT my love language.
But if it’s yours… STBX is available and it’s one of his also.
I’ll add that I’m not a big takeout person in general. Pizza holds up pretty well to being transported home. Deli sandwiches are fine. But for the most part there’s a significant loss of quality.
Hibachi place that an acquaintance owns declined to serve a catering gig I was offering precisely because he believes it doesn’t hold up well to transport and later serve. My family still takes the leftovers home when we visit, but it isn’t like fresh-served.
contrast that with my uber driver (Mike - white guy in florida) who lamented his uber driver competitors by describing them collectively as “the abduls”. that was a long 1.4 miles to the other hotel
Can you get the Gardetto’s mustard pretzels in your area? That’s a fave of mine, couldn’t get them in CO but they sell them in KS. Otherwise, agree fully that rye chips are where it’s at.
because “the stock market is up an average of 8.3% over the past 10 years” day in and day out is rather repetitive.
Yeah, climate change has this problem too.
“The world has warmed 0.02C/year for 50 years!!!”
1 year later.
“The world has warmed 0.02C/year for 51 years!!!”
Still, nobody feels the need to announce the global temperature every day.
I had a cabby the other day (Abdul was visiting his mother in Morocco) who made a comment about how dirty immigrant are - I shut the conversation down
I always got a kick out of 2010s when the S&P would be down like 3% on a day and CNBC would put up a chryon, MARKETS IN TURMOIL and if it happened a 2nd day in a week, they’d dispatch Becky Quick to go talk to Warren Buffet for a discussion that was less hard-hitting than the average fluff ball so he could say “everything is fine, nothing to worry about” and then then markets would rocket higher.
Of course, if the S&P was up 3% on a day, … that was fine. And if it was up 3% twice in a week, even better. No cause for alarm there.
Chryon is a silly word.
So is Chevron.
I’ll pass on the leftover burger or fries, but give me all the leftover enchiladas as they reheat well
So is Klaxon.

I play a lot of the on-line games. Was recently travelling abroad
I find it interesting that most will allow you to play after the allotted time in your time zone
Redactle and Metazooa only let me play after the appropriate time at home.
Which was odder with the US time change, but not where I was
Nah, it’s a nice thing to do for your spouse. Couple weeks ago I had a company rep by me and a buddy lunch. At the end, I ordered three deserts that I paid for, one for each of us to take home to our spouses.
My spouse appreciated it, and so did theirs I was told.
My son works pt as a waiter and occassionally brings home food. We’ll sit around the kitchen snacking on it when he gets home.
Related random thought. Huge kerfluffle locally this week. Apparently they are going to build an EV plant in the area. Imagine all the NIMBY stuff that’s started, everyone’s talking about it. All bullshit, nobody has any actual facts.
So related to restaurants, I went to our in-town indian restaurant for lunch. Because the owner is a local councillor. Asked him, he said it’s happening, but no information right now. So, like I said, nobody has any actual facts. They’re upset over speculation.
Also related, I’m sitting there sweating eating my lunch it’s so spicy. Even though I know the restuarant dials down the spices to the absolute minimum to make it palatable to us locals.
My table of contents needs a table of contents.
