Random questions

Hmmm, haven’t read many of the books.

I loved Where’d You Go Bernadette though and the movie cut out one of the main reasons she left. Which makes it more lighthearted, but also kind of makes her into a worse person, IMO.

Mary Poppins… yeah, I’d agree with that.

Wizard of Oz: I hate that they cut the good witch of the South from the movie. Why have an East, West, and North but no South??? It makes no sense. There’s a lot more about color in the movie than the book as they were obviously emphasizing the new technology. I do like the movie… just wish it had all the witches.

Surprised that The Joy Luck Club didn’t make the list. They cut some stuff for the movie probably to make it a shorter run-time, but it was still a really good adaptation, IMO.

Under the Tuscan Sun — movie better than book.

I haven’t read most of the books listed and they are wrong about Little Women, but I had to laugh that Under the Tuscan Sun made the list. That is always the first book I think of when I see this question. I rarely think the movie is better.

For a few that I have read I can see why the book is less appealing than the movie to some people. I for one LOVED the detail in Hidden Figures although it could have been written better. But the movie took liberties with the truth and I wanted the real story. Still, I wouldn’t recommend that book to just anyone.

But Little Women? Have some respect! This is what happens when you get book advice from a website called “popsugar”.

I thought The Last Temptation of Christ was a more powerful example of a temptation that could have appealed to Jesus in the movie than in the book.

Haven’t seen any of the movie adaptations but I really liked the book when I read it years ago. It’s hard to imagine a movie doing the book justice.

Some are very good, but none replace the book.

In the whole wide world, are there more doors or more wheels?

I’m gonna guess wheels, in that you find them not only on cars/trucks/buses, but on drawers, inside clocks and watches, on cranes, garbage cans, toys, etc.

How hard is it to find a good therapist? I got a referral via my company’s EAP. He tried to mansplain deductible to me. Also said he never heard of my EAP. Supposedly takes my insurance so I said we could go that route. But he was REALLY worried about the deductible and told me to call someone else.

I only called them bc I hate trying to find someone. I think I’m friends with most of the good therapists in town…

Gross.

Our EAP has been hit or miss. You should be able to call the EAP back and say not a good fit, and get another referral.

So the last therapist we got from the EAP was also a miss. I did write them back bc I don’t think this guy should even be ON the list.

I’m not going to vet all their therapists for them, so I’m going a different route.

Fair. Hope you find someone good who isn’t already your friend

Can you ask one of your therapist friends for a referral?

I’m on this scrabble app. I’ve never been on a dating site before, but with this app I get SO many scrabble requests from random creepy men. I usually ignore these and instead either play against people I know or let the app randomly choose an opponent. The app pretty much always chooses a random opponent who is female, which makes me think there are in actuality more females using this app and the men are just on there for other creepy reasons. So are there just all these desperate men looking for sex on a scrabble app as spill over from dating sites?

I made the mistake of accepting a few scrabble challenges from them and they usually try to talk to me and when I don’t reply they usually abandon the game. Their opening question is to ask my location. Do they not realize that women are generally on this app to play scrabble and that’s about it?

Sadly, based on my experience on Facebook that is not slightly surprising.

On a dating website the most common approach I got was “You’re hot; want to come over?”

Uh… no. And block.

What is men’s success rate with that highly sophisticated approach, I wonder?

I guess it’s not the rate that matters to them, but the absolute number of “yes” responses. Still…

that’s sort of how it seems. there are so many less than subtle guys out there and i have to imagine it is off putting, to say the least.

Saw this and thought of your post:

What’s the difference between stairs and steps?

Seems to me like steps are outside and stairs are inside.

Steps are a British dance-pop group consisting of Lee Latchford-Evans, Claire Richards, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer and Ian “H” Watkins.

That’s what I would’ve thought, too, but the internet disagrees:
