Do you use a term for when cars slow down at a stop sign but go through it at low speed without coming to a stop?

A rolling stop? Not a term I would use (since it’s not actually a stop), but that’s what I’ve generally seen it called.

I’ve heard it called a California stop.

Same.

I live in California. Here we just call it a stop.

This is what I call it too. I wondered if it was a widely used expression, as someone looked puzzled when I said it recently.

Rolling stop is the colloquialism here.

(did I use ‘colloquialism’ correctly?)

When do you decide to retire athletic shoes?

Generally with any shoes I look for when the sole starts to split from the upper as a sign that it’s time to replace. If I don’t wear a pair as regularly, I’ll replace after about 2 years regardless of condition. Sometimes as an intermediate phase of life, a pair of shoes will serve time as garden shoes before being retired.

When they’ve signed to their 4th team in as many years?

It’s more obvious shoes are wearing out when I am running regularly and my legs will start to be more sore after a run. This does happen around the 300 mile mark which is typically @ 4 months. I end up accumulating a lot of shoes that don’t go through the full downgrade cycle with yard work.

At $100-150 a pair, it seems like a lot to be spending on shoes, but its a bargain compared to a gym membership.

Not to mention the cost of medical treatment/PT/OT/etc. of continued use of poor support from shoes.
