Women’s sports are going to hurt for the next 4 years.
I think this is another issue where a little bit of education could go a long way. People don’t seem to have the first clue about all the myriad ways that government makes their lives better. Clean air and water, disaster relief, pretty much all science has some government backing The list is endless, but people just hear ‘deep state’ and ‘drain the swamp’ and they fall for that nonsense every time. Why not hammer home all the actual positive effects instead? Could have been a good use of the bully pulpit during Biden’s term but he wasn’t up to it I guess.
I was at a local, independent grocery store yesterday. I usually go to a regional grocer that’s probably 25% cheaper on average, but they are a little closer and I only needed a few things.
I noticed a stand for XYZ Farms food products from a neighboring town and was shocked. Keeping details vague for pseudonymity, this farm made the news for repeatedly violating COVID protocols and especially for one particular incident of blatant, open racism by the owner. The owner also has literal direct family ties to enthusiastically serving WWII Nazis and to the KKK. There’ve been a lot of anecdotes of racist incidents. Minorities have learned to avoid going to that farm.
I don’t think I want to shop there as long as they stock that farm’s products. I’m thinking of writing an email to them, keeping the tone polite but explaining that they may not be aware of what the farm stands for, and that I can’t shop there if they stand behind that. Both the racism, and that I don’t trust their food safety if they flout pandemic safety procedures.
flout* (minor pet peeve of mine)
It may be more impactful to speak with the manager when you are in the store as well. Rando emails can come from all over. The email could provide links with proof, however.
I think I may. I wanted to get my thoughts in order, as it’d been a while since I’d thought of the news items and I didn’t want to come across like, “They’re just bad, because conservative!”
On the topic, we have a vacation planned in a few months and I often used AirB&Bs. I’ll be checking Vrbo and other sites like Homestay, FlipKey, HomeToGo, etc.
Edit: Just booked with Vrbo.
14 out of 15 woot
But I guessed at least 5
I also got 14/15. I knew most of them cold, but missed on Buddism’s 4 noble truths.
Grimes apparently won the maximum child support that she can receive from Elon Musk under Texas law, which is $2,760 / month for 3 kids. California law has no cap. Yet another reason why Musk moved to Texas.
TX expects you to raise 3 kids on 2760 a month? What a nutty place. I don’t object to that amount for those who can’t afford more but Elon shouldn’t have that problem.
I don’t think they’re saying that’s what it costs… that’s the max that they expect one parent to pay the other parent to cover it.
I don’t know about Texas but in some states that doesn’t cover medical or school expenses or activities. Those are paid in addition to child support.
Same. Feel dumb for missing it because I switched from the correct answer.
I like bragging about test scores. Feels very actuarial.
Hurting others makes him happy.
Hope there’s something in addition because in a dual-income family maybe that’s enough, but in a single-income family where the nonworking spouse has to care at home for the child, that seems like a difficult amount for a parent and 3 kids to live on. TX only has alimony after 10 years, and it’s very likely to have 3 kids in less than 10 years…
One thing I have learned is that you don’t get to be a SAH parent or part time employee in divorce just because you were one while married. Support is based on the presumption that you earn to your potential. So while you can choose to earn less than your potential, support will be based on potential income.
STBX hired an employment counselor or something along those lines who determined that I was capable of making roughly 3x what I was actually making. My support was based on the higher number.
i have seen that in other states too. one spouse being intentionally underemployed by working at the school is not what is considered unless such a role is your broader employment marketplace earning potential.
How you doin’?
How is that enforceable?
They are basically saying you might make this in the future
Was always under the impression this sort of thing was based on your actual income.
No, plenty of folks would quit their jobs to avoid child support, then start working again, sometimes under the table. You have to realize who the biggest dependents on getting child support are. Hint - it ain’t the rich.
Former coworker had a an ex who owed a good bit in child support, enough to be thrown in jail. He never “had a job” but somehow had enough money to live. She figured she’d never get a dime by enforcing the order and sending him to jail, but if he were out, occasionally he’d throw the kid some $.
