Southwestern Ontario has the biggest concentration of greenhouse operators in North America. Most of their production is exported to the US so they are at high risk of losing markets. Hopefully much of this production can be rerouted to Canadian markets. They should concentrate on Toronto because of its size and proximity and replace imports.
SIL has the first infant of that generation, and MIL who has been repeatedly warned was again caught passing the baby around for kisses, in particular to somebody with an active herpes outbreak.
In the heat of that, MIL got into it about their choices to vaccinate their baby and blamed their cousin catching autism on vaccines.
SIL shot back MIL is an idiot, and itâs kind of like how MIL always has cancer-causing cigarette smoke on her hands while handling the baby.
Yes. Basically MILâs whole generation in her family believes that, including the parents of the kid with autism. They also had an intersex child, over which Iâve always been curious about the interplay of that reality with their rabid anti-trans beliefs. I suspect itâs an overreaction to having their kid surgically assigned a sex and likely some latent doubt over that, but I donât know them well enough to be too sure. Both parents of the kids drank and did drugs through the pregnancies, but the vaccines are to blame for anything.
So, one of the dancers at the halftime show unfurled a flag, part Palestinian, part Sudan. Got detained for some reason. What was the reason?
Not dancing the approved steps or something? Iâm in a lot of trouble if someone can get detained for not dancing correctly.
He wasnât trespassing. He was there as one of the approved dancers.
Was going to post this in the authoritarian milestone thread, but, eh, they released him instead of sending him to Gitmo.
We (family + nanny) all got vaccinated for whooping cough (pertusis) because my wife was adamant about nobody coming close to the baby with any kind of illness.
We have a few religious evangelicals (family) down in Brazil that are the same. We actively avoid them as they can never respect any boundaries.
Yeah, I donât see how thatâs a crime. A violation of his contract maybe⌠could result in forfeiting pay and getting black listed to future events but I canât see grounds for criminal charges.
This should a non-negotiable requirement for any person around a baby under 3-6 months. Pertussis kills babies, and getting an updated Tdap/DTaP vaccine is a good idea anyway.
I have a family member who claims to have an allergy to vaccines (I have my reasons to be skeptical of this claim, but letâs assume for a minute itâs true), and I would not let them anywhere near my baby until my baby was immunized. Sucks that you canât get vaccines, but Iâm not putting my kid at risk.
Part of the issue in dealing with this is that we arenât really dealing with Trump; rather, weâre not dealing with a man with diabolical plans. Heâs a vessel. Weâre dealing with an entire hierarchy made to seize control through his hands. The man goes up and spouts stupid shit about Canada and windmills and throws up bullshit while his cronies silently solidify power and sell out the American people.
Trump dying would require his handlers to figure out how to deal with Vance, but little else.
Remember when Republicans were up in arms about a certain Senator wearing shorts in the most holy of holies senate chamber? Imagine their reaction if a special government employee were to wear a baseball cap in the holiest of holier than thou oval office?
You think the tariffs against Canada are unimportant? They may have a small impact on the US but they will cause massive job losses in Canada. Trump is hurting the rest of the world big time.
Though you didnât ask me it came directly off what I said - I donât consider threats of tariff or invasion of Canada as unimportant, and probably saying he âspouts off bullshitâ like invading Canada was callous. But this is the result of flooding the zone with bullshit. Gulf of America. Fort Bragg. Decrees to change the word âfirefighterâ to âfiremanâ.
Iâm watching the roots of these weeds rapidly penetrate a government that came perforated with an assumption that the vast majority of its participants are acting in good faith, despite often with different beliefs and strategies.
Weâve had some judge stays and court wins telling them to pause the things they already did, resume giving out money after theyâve damaged institutions by withholding it, yet those tiny wins are too late and only address a tiny portion of the issue.
Sorry to sound like Canada was unimportant - there is just so. much. bullshit coming out. The US damaging our global goodwill and threatening allies is bad for everybody, but also feels like a shiny squirrel to keep us mad at the visible stuff while everybody is quietly installed and purges ranks of the nonbelievers.
And I totally agree that what Trump is doing to America is terrible. It is just that I want Americans not to lose sight of his awful impact he has on the rest of the world. It is not just America that he is hurting.
The problem with focusing on the external damage is that issue doesnât work as a rallying cry internally. Plenty of Americans seem to be perfectly happy letting the rest of the world burn if it makes them feel superior. Sadly, the only way out of this mess is to focus on the destruction they are causing to the US government and try to educate people on how it will impact peopleâs lives.
I think the damage Trump is doing to the federal civil service, for example, is not something people will rally against: a lot of Americans support it. And the damage to American institutions is too abstract for many. It will be increases in gasoline and food prices after tariffs kick in that cause people to react.
The ârest of the world burningâ does have a knock on effect for Americans but I agree that is not always recognized.
