Nice ending there. Extra rain, every player turned mortal and humble.
It was good for the USGA that Spaun won with a few birdies coming home. The rain made the rough completely unplayable, and in some spots the fairway was suspect even where there wasn’t officially standing water. Amazing work by the ground crew though.
Make Albatross, Fall Flat On Face
Nice cruise to a win by Scheffler. Contest for second was up and down.
Bump…
“We gotta change this so we can all make more money. Who cares who is the best golfer or that shit. ENTERTAIN!”
“The sports business is not that complicated,” said Rolapp, a former NFL executive. "You get the product right, you get the right partners, your fans will reward you with their time because they’re telling you it’s good and they want more of it, and then the commercial and the business part will take care of itself.
So, what can golf do to “get the product right”?
- Pay the golfers just to show up? No, that doesn’t seem to be working at LIV. Or, maybe it is and I don’t know because I wouldn’t follow an individual sport like that.
- Certainly don’t need a tournament every week, especially if the tournament relies on top golfers showing up.
- Playoff is dumb. Can make like it is, an invitational four-week tournament separate from the Tour, but with different prize money and incentives to finish high (like guaranteed spots in Majors or something). Also, have different types of tourneys. Maybe a four-ball knockout with a random draw. Then alternate-shot knockout the next weekend, again a random draw. Get individual points that accumulate. Then Top 16 points-makers play Match Play knockout.
- Mic them all up.
- Shot clock on the green. 3-4 minutes for each putt. That’s gotta stop.
Etc.
You wouldn’t follow LIV? Or golf (an individual sport) in general?
I do not follow LIV.
Does golf in general have appearance fees?
My bad…I mis-read your statement.
