some of rory’s putts at the end were right out of my playbook. just weak. too bad
painful to watch him lose like that considering he hasnt won a major in 10 years and loses against a LIV guy
LIV is down to 1 guy and he needed the time away to change his persona. Contracts coming up.
Rory was disappointing but he will bounce back. His biggest defeats have led to wins.
Collin Montgomery wondering what Tiger’s doing out there.
Tiger replies: “Some people get a choice whether to continue or not. I have an exemption until I’m 60. Collin did not.”
Golf gettin SPICY!!!
Tiger isn’t wrong, he does get to make that choice, and sponsors will pay for him to play at tournaments as long as he’ll show up and he’ll make a crapton of money along the way.
On the other hand, just because you can doesn’t mean you should, 79-77 doesn’t scream “ability to be competitive on the pro tour” and there’s no reason to think it’s getting meaningfully better. Tiger’s turning into that superstar everyone fondly remembers as being great and people hope has another magical run left, and instead he goes out and plays terrible and people wince and murmur yeah, that wasn’t great but don’t want to admit he’s absolutely gassed, he needs to call it quits.
Media can also ignore his every shot.
People want to see it, though.
Media can also stop obsessing about it, and maybe people will focus on relevant things. Then sponsors will focus on other golfers, etc.
Woods made the Masters cut this year. He is not playing many tournaments, but maybe he can improve his health enough to play more competitive golf which would bode well for being competitive for 4 rounds of a major.
The British Open is kind of gimmicky in places. Woods still strikes the ball well. I hope he keeps playing.
He did make the cut, and at +1 through 36 he wasn’t in terrible shape (though he was 8 strokes off the lead). It was the 82-77 across the final 36 that left him in 60th, out of the 60 players that made the cut.
Which again goes to the fact that he can put up a decent round, maybe a good round, maybe even a good round and a decent one and get people excited about him being competitive, maybe he’s got one more top-10 major finish in him where he basically plays a course smart by just getting the ball around while most everyone else is trying to rip it, but he’s not doing that consistently for 72 holes at tournaments. At age 48, with his physical issues that he’s still trying to rehab, the ticking of Father Time’s clock is deafening.
I’m not saying he shouldn’t be playing, I’m just saying rounds of 75, 77, 79, 82 are going to be more frequent the more he plays.
Good thing Phil got all that money up front and won’t have to pay any of it back in any way, shape, or form, because the Saudi’s are fine, fine people…
Yes, it is silly:
Needs to declare Scheffler the Regular Season Tour Champ, and then have this “playoff” for a more interesting payout.
LIV, the even sillier tour, thinking about marrying Fox:
Should bring in more viewers, but not too many. Just up Fox’s alley, as they are known for over-hyping and hyperventilating over any minor thing that happens on a sport venue. I thought they sucked big at Golf when they had the US Open.
A match made in heaven
Bump for a pretty exciting Masters finish.
Brother and some friends are texting live, so i caught up after an hour or so, starting 1.5 hours behind.
Playoff, baby!
did Rose need to make the par putt in the playoff?
in regulation, it makes sense to putt 1st, so not overcoming the commotion if Rory sinks his.
But, if Rory sinks his, games over, does Rose putt?
If Rory misses, Rory could be away
If Rose misses, huge advantage for Rory to know he has a two putt
It seems that if a putt misses by less than 3 feet, they just get it over and done with. Not sure of the custom though.
He did not need to make the putt. He could have waited for Rory to putt.
I am guessing he did it to put the same pressure on Rory that he had in regulation - only one putt to win
If they were tied on the 72nd hole, Rose would still have not have putt first (for par). The pressure is placed on Rory to make it without the 5% chance that Rose misses.
In the playoff, after Rory makes the birdie, Rose does not putt for par.
