Political truths that are worth sharing but aren’t funny

Thank you very much!

Not mentioned but another political truth: Concentrated stupidity in swing states is what might do us in.

Are you obsessing about the possibility of being banned?

It is why I stopped responding to his posts

Is this a quote from Denzel, or is the picture just supposed to lend a false sense of gravitas? I am having a time finding an original source. There is a Dostoevsky quote (again no citation found) that is pretty similar. And should it be “when” instead of “where”?

ETA Snopes say Dostoevsky quote is misattributed. I’d put credence in them before some random idiot on reddit r\quotes.

Are you talking to me?

Yes. Its not from Denzel.

It comes from an FB friend of mine to dislikes Trump and his supporters.

The MAGA folks shout down all the sane republicans so he is not happy about it.

We were just talking about Trump and his MAGA cult in this thread so there some degree of relevancy.

Yes, seemed like an AO-mandatory response to such a post, even when (or even because) it was obviously not the intent of the post.

I don’t think it exclusively applies to people on the right.

I imagine MAGA likes this too from the other perspective. Everyone shouts them down when they want to talk about the stolen election, Jewish space lasers, Haitians eating pets, infants being murdered legally,…

Yeah - MAGA would use this quote to point to wokeness

It’s a 12-minute watch, yes, but I recommend. Ignore the slightly clickbait title. It is certainly a partisan piece, but to find things I found questionably factual I was really nitpicking.

e.g. I’m not sure if Vance has said he’d consider all immigrants illegal.

However, he has said that he would consider illegal immigrants made legal by Harris to still be illegal, and he has said he will continue to call legal Haitian migrants illegal aliens, and he’s said he will deport illegals. Given that Vance knowingly calls legal migrants illegals and has explained to us that he lies to our face, it’s a tiny stretch to say he’ll deport all migrants, so I cannot call it counterfactual.

The majority of this draws some good context around the rise of the new American far-right and draws parallels back to prior fascist regimes, and explains some of what Trump will do in a cohesive way.

Trump had his crowd chanting “Send them back” re: the Haitian immigrants the other night. I definitely think that they would like to cancel certain programs and deport the (largely brown) beneficiaries of them.

Trump and his MAGA cult are full of crazy people (not much point in arguing with people who are blindingly stupid. You will just waste energy)

I am much more interested in Vance.

The guy is not dumb. He is also well educated.

What is in this for him?

He must know deep down that he is increasingly going down the MAGA rabbit-hole trying to defend crazy policies and the latest totally ridiculous Trump mutterings.

The only thing that makes some sense to me is that he is hoping to become the GOP pick after Trump loses the coming election (Trump will not run again), and after that he will probably tack to the center away from the extreme MAGA
cult.

I think he’s banking on being one cheeseburger away from the Presidency, then being the incumbent.

He’s not particularly charismatic, but he could have enough momentum to stay the frontrunner in primaries off of the fascist and racist elements, then soften slightly into the general to present “a new face of MAGA”, one that has rosy cheeks.

His interviews lately lead me to believe he won’t achieve it. Thought the same about Trump after “some, I assume, are good people”, but I hadn’t fully grasped the latent surfeit of the type of folk he attracts. Some people were seeking precisely Trump.

  • Fame and perceived glory, in the short term.
  • A shot at influencing the post-Trump direction of the GOP (discussion of which has probably already begun within the party)
  • Speaking fees and book deals can be profitable.
  • A springboard to launch a 2028 Presidential campaign from, especially if Trump is elected and doesn’t survive his term in office.

The only way I can parse thru the language and come up with something reasonably logical is in view of Temporary Protected Status. If persons of certain nationalities are granted temporary legal status because of serious acute issues in their homeland, it seems if those conditions revert to the general chronic crappy conditions, the status can be revoked. If that is not the case, then the program is arguably not what it is advertised to be/what Congress authorized. Whether those conditions change enough for a change in status to be reasonable is something that can be debated.

Except Vance will be blamed for a Trump loss, so it will be the end of his political career like most everyone else that has joined with Trump.

I don’t know where you get your election news. What I see is 50/50.

He’s in it to be president when Trump has the stroke.
